I noticed last night that everything I was looking at said ‘not available for shipping to uk’.
Is this temporary do we think?
Can I blame Johnson?
Same with R2 bikes. Temporary I would think, until the blocked ports situation is resolved.
Same with all the German bike retailers. Ordered a set of wheels on Bike 24 on Sunday hoping to get them through, they've taken the cash but tracking shows no action so waiting for the cancellation mail
Depends what you count as temporary. This will go on for months or years.
You can blame Johnson and the rest of the hateful Tory party, the electorate that fell for the lies and the rotten Brexit mongers looking to cash in on the misery of a nation.
Just had an email from light bicycle that the rims I ordered at the end of September will be delayed by a further month minimum.
Bike 24 runs on razor thin margins, depending on whats in the pipeline from Brexit this situation may or may not resolve itself. The additional grief of shipping over a tax border might not be worth it even once the dust has settled.
Well, the no shipping situation will be temporary. The increased cost I would expect to be more permanent.
I have an order stick in limbo, have been advised it might take a while, I was asked if I wanted a refund.
I suspect the orders will resume. I assume most of these companies ship to Switzerland? When they resume??? For a starter there needs to be clarity on duty. There is always the issue of expecting foreign companies to register with HMRC which might result in companies no longer shipping to uk.

Switzerland is in EFTA, ie part of the single internal European market. Would be handy if UK joined that formally.
I imagine they will resume selling to UK but you'll need to be paying all the VAT and import duties etc. before Royal Mail / Parcelforce deliver and get stung for the £8 processing fee.

So far....
Yay for taking back control.
I would say "but blue passports", but you won't be able to use those anywhere soon either due to our status as Rainy Plague Island.
Might as well have a jolly good piss up over Chrimbo - a hangover from doing something a bit silly seems apt.
We've got a few orders waiting to go the other way, although ours is covid related (suspended post services to mainland Europe) rather than brexshitshow.
if the trade-off from having to spend a couple of quid more on bicycle parts is supporting LBS/UK distributors/etc more then that's a win-win IMO (cue everyone crying that they're on the poverty line and the only way they can afford XTR/DI2 bits or carbon rims is buying EU imports 🤣)Bike24

Happy to support local, but saving £10 on a few bits is one thing, saving £300 on a groupset is quite another. Then there's the argument that LBS/distributors will also be facing increased costs as well, assuming they also import from EU.

Precisely.
Assuming any stock in the uk. No point supporting something that doesn’t exist. Main reason for my previous euro orders.
In theory there will be zero tariffs on bicycles imported from non eu countries compared to the current 14%. Given that most bikes are made outside of the eu then we should see a price drop. I’m not going to hold my breath though
Is this a covid issue or brexit issue? Suspect a bit of both
Company I contract to supply pharmaceutical parts to Europe. They've let their clients know that there's a temporary delay in shipping.
My lbs is Halfords or Evans.
There’s a shop with a good rep, but prices are very high and stock is limited, and they’re kind of rude to those not in their clique. There’s a bike repair charity scheme that I use for repairs I can’t do myself. They’re great, but they don’t carry stuff to sell.
It’s range of stock rather than price that makes places like Bike24 attractive. The lbs had 3 or 4 to choose from, none of which I especially liked. Bike24 had 100s.
So yes, I’ll miss buying from them. In theory I love the lbs idea, in practise they don’t really have what I need.
Given that most bikes are made outside of the eu
Made outside the EU, then sent to a distribution warehouse, normally in the EU.
Every time I try to support my LBS, I either have to fix my bike after they’ve ****ed it up, or they don’t have the parts I need in stock ‘but can get it in a week’... I’ll stick with online thanks.
I’ll try to stick with online if it remains possible given the stupid act of self sabotage thanks.
FTFY.

however Switzerland is not in the customs union, ie full declaration of goods. Which is similar to the situation the UK will be in.

I think they dropped that idea in favour of maintaining roughly the status quo didn't they?
Frames and parts are actually going down a bit compared to the EU tariff IIRC. But bikes stay the same. If the parts go to say Koblenz for assembly from Taiwan/China then to here, you can expect 14% increase in price - eg Canyon.
Also +1 for the LBS sentiment.
I didn't start doing all my own maintenance because I wanted to save the money.
I started because it was a pain in the arse to take my bike to the LBS, leave it with them, go to pick it up at the agreed time then either have rearrange other things because they couldn't sort it on time, or fix stuff they had got wrong or couldn't finish on time.
It wasn't a 'decision' as much as a creeping thought of 'I could probably do that myself, to a planned timetable, and just as well' that did it.
cue everyone crying that they’re on the poverty line
It's not just money. Are you old enough to remember when you could only source parts via the UK distributor, and there was no other option? I am. Bikes waiting for spares that were abundant in other countries, but no stock in the UK, were pretty normal. The idea that all the alternative sourcing will just be "more expensive" going forward is hugely oversimplifying things... some companies just will not bother with our market... as we will soon see. There's the rest of Europe (and not just the EU) to get on with supplying... if we want to make things difficult... not everyone will spend the time and money accommodating us. And this isn't just about EU brands... RoW brands, such as USA or Japanese ones, will be pushed into treating us as a separate market to the rest of Europe... a smaller lesser market... that will have impacts. There is no "win-win" here.
FWIW Bike 24 is owned by Wiggle/CRC so no worries about supporting a UK business.
However, loss of access to EU markets means we have unscrupulous "official UK distributors" setting special prices for the UK, like we used to have before the EU which means lack of competition and prices only going one way. Any notion that this Brexit $hitshow means cheaper bikes and parts is kidding themselves.
They flipped Bike24 dovebiker, IIRC.
Rubbish, my bike-discount order for a Shimano cassette and chain that I cant seem to find anywhere other than Germany easily, and had a dispatch note, I have now just been emailed that they have received my return.... so assume its been cancelled at their end.
Had thought I had squeezed in in time.
Deliveries to Ireland are affected as well.
I want to shop local but 2k vs 1400 for an AXS groupset is pushing it a little!
First world problems and all...
That'll be couriers returning parcels to senders so they don't have lots building up while they can't ship them. They've done the same in the uk.
I run a small Independent store in Munich. About 20% of my sales are to the UK.
I’ve just had to say that Monday is the last day I will ship to UK customers until there is a deal/no deal finalised, as it’s the last day UPS can guarantee a delivery by 31st.
It’s purely a Brexit issue.
If the goods arrive in the UK from the 1st there is no way of knowing if my customer will get charged UK import duty (and what that will be) and then UK VAT on top (and they will have already paid German VAT at 16%).
On top of this it’s likely that the goods will get stuck (and probably lost!) in UK Customs, which I am sure is not geared up to cope with whatever the situation will be on the 1st Jan.
As much aa it’s going to damage my business (on top of the difficult year we have already had) I can afford to p**s off my customers and/or then get goods back in 1/2/3 months time.
Sad face emoji. I blame my mother for voting Leave. Grrrr.
I think. Wiggle sold bike24 again, but yes prices are only going one way, and availability the other.

Deliveries to Ireland are affected as well.
DHL go through UK to get to Ireland, so they're suspended for now. Depending on which post Brexit shitshow the UK choose, they may have to set up a new route in January, but they probably can't make that decision yet.
R2-Bike and Alltricks still delivering to Ireland though.
MY Bike24 order has just been updated as return to sender. Not surprised, will see what options Bike24 give me. I suspect refund, then wait till the new year and hope it is still possible to order and the prices aren't overly hammered.
Look on the bright side. A lot of those worthless S/H components you've got laying around now might actually be worth something. I've been holding on to my barely used but weighs a ton 35s secure in the knowledge that they are about to appreciate.
As much as I dislike leaving the EU, you lot are all barking up the wrong tree. The problem is that all of the courier networks are currently delaying shipments to the U.K.
We had 6 pallets of stock coming from Barcelona that was turned round after 2 days. We’re expecting it now in mid January, which is when the retailers mentioned above will probably start shipping here again.
JP
Bike-Discount no longer has the UK on the long list of countries they will ship to. We will have to see if this deal gets them to add it back.
My Bike 24 order (pair of wheels) turned up out the blue yesterday. They very kindly upgraded the postage at their cost to get them to me in 2 days and before the cutoff, awesome service as ever!
Just ordered an item from a french retailer two days ago, they said it has been dispatched and given me a ups tracking number, but it says that it still hasn't arrived at their (ups') facilities. Should I be worried?
No...given the time of year, volume of work, global pandemic and us leaving the EU then 2 days is not a problem.
Now that some deal has been done (has it been approved by UK and EU parliaments?), then I suspect it'll arrive once the backlog has eased at some point.
Exchange rates improved so hopefully they'll start accepting uk orders again after 1st jan.
