I also read somewhere they are on course to be the best selling bike in the UK.
Now, I have no doubt they'll sell a lot, but the best selling? Not sure about that .
AFAIK, Brompton make 40k+ a year, with the majority of them selling in the UK. That should put them in the running at least.
Anyone got any other ideas? Or statz, obvz.
I imagine, if not a Brompton, it'll be a mid to low range Carrera.

It'll be something very low-end from a large chain. Probably something that comes in enough sizes that kids or adults could ride it.

I spent ages on decent quality BMX's, because the MTB's that my mates had were god awful catalogue/department store bought gas pipe abortions with terrible gears. I honestly though all MTB's were awful.
While I know the world has changed since I were a youth, I doubt the buying habits of parents for their kids has much.
It's staggering how many people will ride around on BSOs such as Apollos, that have horridly cheap parts and create their own gravity field, when £320 such as https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/voodoo-marasa-mens-hybrid-bike--18-20-frames will get them something with parts far likely to last longer and encourage them to continue riding.
It’ll be something very low-end from a large chain. Probably something that comes in enough sizes that kids or adults could ride it.
not sure what they sell now in bikes but recall seeing sportsdirect's own brand Dunlop bikes near the top of a list a few years ago - sort of similar was reading about new proposed standard for helmets down under and Kmart have a place on committee as they are the largest seller (numerically) of cycling helmets

thing is, BSO's tend to stay in circulation, because they turn up at car boots and local garage sales with hardly any use for about 7 groats.
And a lot of people would rather spend £200 on a "new" bike for their kids, rather than buying a "used" £6-700 one for £150.
Most obvious popular bike around here would be a SC 5010 I think. Everything else is a mix. It's a small town though so not many commuters, ruling out many models. Don't see many Orange, Cannondale but lots of Surlys, Specialized, Treks. Local shops obviously have an impact on brands you'll see.

I see loads of carreras round here. Mostly look like decent bikes. Mainly yoofs riding them. Also popular are proper ladies town bikes. Rarely see as BSO. I feel very lucky 😉

That was my comment in the other thread, and I have just tracked down the original article.
As is often the case the facts are somewhat different to my recollection, lol.
The keenly priced CAADX — a more traditional, cyclocross-focused model — is a hugely important bike for Cannondale, and in the UK at least, is supposedly its best-selling bike.
I suspect the Topstone, with its more all-round geometry, improved clearances and increased versatility could dethrone the CAADX as number one, so this is one we’ll be watching very, very closely.
That clears it up. Cannondales top selling bike is probably 0.001% of UK bike sales....

Surprising though that a cx bike outsells the road bikes and mtbs within the Cannondale range. Wonder why that is?
I see 3 or 4 Brommies a day on my way to work and I'm nowhere near that London, nor any other large conurbation.
Mind you, I see a lot more each day that I'm surprised are even capable of being pedalled judging by the way their chains squeak.

best preserved front tyres in cycling as most are only ridden on the rear. the chavs bike of choice here. when asked why carrera the answer is invariably "coz they is sick man"
however the best look is the one on their face when you try to explain that the chain, cassette, chainrings and brake pads don't last for ever even if their "old man/lady" paid £70 for it at the car boot/from the pub/man in hoody on the estate

I'd certainly guess carrera based on what a lot of kids round here have.
Nowt particularly wrong with that, I had one myself for about 2 years and racked up a good amount of miles on it.
Of course I've now upgraded the entire bike bar the carrera seat post, as the forks, wheels, frames brakes etc are budget items but they are ok if on a budget.
The cheaper ones are a bit pants but better than a BSO, and if you go up to a kraken or similar they're not too bad at all for the money if discounted.
My son has went from a second hand trek 4300 2 years ago to a commencal meta AM29 via 2 x nukeproofs. He is really keen and got to a decent level as he rides almost every day . My point isnt trying to show off about what he rides its that the wee lad round the corner who is a few years younger got an orange carrera and had the same look on his face as my son with the big bike.
The other thing with Carreras seem to be amazing to wheelie going by the wee lads kicking about town.
Stanfree is the biggest bike seller in Scotland, his shed is massive and he makes Del Boy look like an amateur.
