Mrs Bol has suggested I start planning a long weekend's cycling to celebrate my 40th. 😯

I'd like to do something that combines some good road miles, with a decent trailcentre day in the middle maybe. Guessing we'd take our own road bikes and hire MTBs. Ideally we'd find somewhere where we could use some kind of baggage transfer service to carry our bags between B&Bs, so that we don't have to carry gear on the plastic bikes.

Has anyone done anything like this, or got any suggestions? Any experience with baggage transfer people? Ideally UK based for cost and inclusivity reasons.

I know this is a southern softy idea, and really we should be carrying our gear, tents, spare bikes etc with us on panniers, but as I don't get the chance to do this very often, I want to cut out as much faff as possible.

Stay in Coniston. Do the Fred Whitton route on your road bikes Saturday, ride Grizedale or do a Tour of the Lake on Sunday?

Borrow a crosser and do it all on one bike.

You really need to use a mtb for the best bits of grizedale.

The Lakes could be a good option. Not sure all of my mates would be able to do the Witton one day and a tour of the Lakes the next. Including me if I'm honest. Think we might have to pace ourselves a bit.

Sorry, I meant Tour of Coniston Lake (which'd mean you'd be able to do it from your doorstep if you were staying in coniston)
