Running Orange's own grips on my Five at the minute and they don't seem to offer much comfort at all for my delicate IT worker hands. I've always tended to run something a bit fatter/squidgy-er like ODI Yetis etc - before I just order another set of those, is there anything else people would recommend I try?

Oury are pretty chunky.

I've not actually seen them in a lock-on version. They always used to be stick-on, but you must be able to get them now.

Dave, I've been using ESI Chunkys for the last two years and will continue to do so. Just make sure you use an old lock ring on the end to protect them from walls and tumbles.

I've got some Wolf Tooth Fat Paws in the classifieds if you wanted a cheap experiment?

I used to like Ourys.
I bought some PNG Loam fats - they are too fat for me! So I haven't used them, but if you want them cheap PM me.

Cheers all. So it looks like you can get Oury lock-ons now! Remember having a few pairs of non-lock-on Oury grips in the past and them being spot on so they look like they might be worth a try.

The ESIs - any issues with them not being lock-ons???

As soon as saw thread title was going to say oury lockon...ive used them for last decade or so. They have been about for years but they went through a phase of not being as readily available to buy in UK. Bought my last few from onone years ago

I'm newly converted to Sensus EMJ grips. They're 32mm diameter so a little bit fatter than normal and because they're push on you get all of that thickness in nice comfy squishy rubber rather than loosing some of it to the plastic inner. Plus they have a nice mushroom/wavy texture which I personally prefer. They're probably not for everyone but I love them.

ESI's are my fave's - no problem about not being lock-ons but you have to fit them correctly - do NOT use hairspray - instead use Windowlene or similar window cleaner to fit them - I've used them on all my bikes for years and swear by them now!

I don't recommend many things and when I do they are usually reasonably priced and do the job there supposed to do, to a decent standard. I would file the following in the expensive for what they are but nice to have section!

My top 3 in no particular order are:

- Oury Lockon. Feel plush.
- Ergon GA2 Fat. Good tapered shape bit harder compound.
- ODI Elite Pro. Slightly slimmer ovalised shape which will most likely suit more people than the other two.

There are fatter grips than all of the above from other manufacturers!

Sam Hill Nukeproof grips are great big fat things. Couldn’t get on with them - I must have small hands - I actually like the thinner deathgrips 🤷‍♂️

Superstar excel for me. Have rogues elsewhere but find the big lump pattern isn't as comfy (so guess I'd be the same with oury)

Sensus meaty paw from sprockets cycles. I buy them for the extra length rather than the girth, I normally munch through gloves from grips that aren't wide enough leaving my thumb rubbing the clamp and the end of my palm rubbing on the end of the grip.
I had thought about buying 2 pairs of something cheaper and chopping them up to make something wider, but I found the meatypaw and haven't felt the need since.

I've seen Oury v2 available in several places now, winstanleys tredz sigma highonbikes, tweeks, quite hard to get a few years ago, I love them but always think there could be something better so keep looking for the perfect grip that probably doesn't exist, currently looking at deity knuckleduster in stealth grey, more medium than fat though at 32mm.

Its funny how things go full circle - I remember my first lock-on grips about 20 odd years ago and being amazed. Stuck with them for so long, but last year I tried these, and I am fully converted. I have a pair on both my MTBs, they are soft, incredibly grippy (sticky, actually), including when wet and muddy, have NEVER slipped or moved, and my hands last longer before getting sore, or arm pump, I'm a total convert. By not having the internal sleeve that all lock-ons have, you get much more depth of squshy material which is key I think. They are also NOT silicone so dont go slippy when wet like ESI's do.

And a bunch of other places:

I really like them, good product.

Ergon GA2 fat .... pricy but very comfortable and longer lasting than many (equally pricey ones) I've tried.

I like the GA2 Fat but now on PNW Loam XL which are even better, as a bonus they look much better and come in lots of colours too if that's your thing

so far I have tried:

Sensus Meaty Paw

Wolftooth Fat Paw XL

ESI Super Chunky XL

All good as they are also wider than standard grips - why are grips so narrow?

think I prefer the Meaty Paw overall, better when wet.

Just spotted the new ODI reflex in Ben's best bits from icebike feature, they look pretty damn good at 33.5 and XL 34.5 proper big fat.

As someone that suffers from hand pain on the bike I've tried a few.

I found the Ergon GA2 fat too hard, but my dad (who doesn't have the hand pain on the bike) loves them.

The wolf tooth fat paws were ok, just didn't last long.

Thick version of the death grips, just not for me, found them quite uncomfortable without gloves.

Diety supracush is what I've settled on for now, they get slippy with no gloves and don't eliminate my hand pain completely, but have been the best for me so far.

Kind of want to try the Rev Grips, but at £90 it's hard to justify, and if I like them they have to go on every bike!

I got a pair as I have a few hand issues from service, it was a bit of a impulsive purchase but one I do not regret in the slightest.

I know they're not cheap, but they've been a real game changer for me.

Still got black pair to sell if you wanna try em.

Talking of trying stuff, how loaded do you have to be to spend 90bleeding quid on grips?! Once you've spent that you're gonna kid yourself they're the best thing since sliced Vibrocore, even if you can't tell the difference! 😛

Nah, pain levels do that. I have an £8k bike, sniffing over £90 grips seems a bit pointless to me when I've spent plenty more on things that make the bike more comfortable to ride.
