TL;DR- what's most like a Rock Razor Supergravity but 2.5 or 2.6? (and a real 2.5/2.6 at that)

Long- I really like my Rockrazor supergravity, it's fast and tough and grips bloody well for what it is. But, I'd like more volume, and for some bloody stupid reason they only make a 2.6 in 650b, not in 29er. Minion SS only comes in 2.3, I think there was a Slaughter 2.6 but you can't buy it...

There's a Teravail Cumberland, but it's £75 from the one shop that still seems to have it (and I think it's discontinued which isn't ideal). The Newton looks to have a low profile but fully blocked centre, could be fast enough? Had a 2.4 trailboss, it didn't have the speed/corner balance I'm looking for. Maybe the Smart Sam but that's definitely not targeted at me and again doesn't look to have much edge. Forekaster is quite fast, but shit.

650b definitely better catered for in this one thing which is annoying!

Similar tread pattern maybe a Trail Boss? Maybe a bit chunkier so depends how much you are looking to retain the semislick rear.

I've a Newton on the front and it's really good. I did have one on the rear (probably the lighter casing and although good I did hole it at Thornilee). Not as fast as the SS obviously

I'm liking 2.6 Rekon on the rear. Not winter tyre, but fast and tough.

Ooh the aggressor's worth a look, for some reason the 2.5 isn't on Maxxis's website, cheers!

The trailboss for me is just a bit weird, it gains centre grip but has no real edge knobs, didn't like it but cheers!

I haven't used those bontys but, past experience was that they're very "round", again a bit lacking in edge, do you think that's fair or is it just looks?

I'm tempted to just nab a Newton as they're dirt cheap...

@Northwind. They’re £45ish on Amazon at the mo in Doubledown flavour. I have one coming tomorrow for the back of my moxie.

Might be worth looking again, as the newer 2.6 & 2.8 ones have much bigger side knobs.
Made quite a difference on the one I fitted.

Got one of these on the back, seems pretty robust and not too draggy, quite weighty though

Thanks guys- I'm going to give the Aggressor a go, since if it doesn't work out for this job I'll still have a home for it on the big bike- I think it might be a bit slower than I want but I can't really lose out. And this gives me a couple of good backups too. Cheers!

The Dissector is everything the Aggressor should be but isn’t.

Mmm, see, I've used them both before in smaller sizes but preferred the aggressor. Actually I outright preferred the rockrazor's grip to the dissector when I swapped between those two. That shouldn't make sense, since the dissector has more grip in all circumstances and is still fast, but I found it more inconsistent, on paper it's just better but I had a couple of really big scares when the dissector gripped then didn't.

But also, it doesn't come in doubledown in the 2.6, only exo and exo+. (or does it? Maxxis don't list it but then they also don't list the aggressor dd...)

Random aside; I ordered the Aggressor since it was cheap at Amazon, if anyone else has done the same they've just dropped the price further, so I had a wee moan and they're refunding the difference. Now down to £36.50. Worth the 5 minutes it took to get the part refund

Thanks. Just tried and they said they couldn’t do it. Love Amazons random policies.

I did the same before I went to the alps a couple of years back. Advertised as dual compound double down casing, but what turned up was an EXO dual compound. There wasn't enough time to send it back, but they did refund me £15 and it survived the trip so all good. Hopefully you get the correct version.

On the dissector/aggressor comparison, I like the aggressor but I've found that the dissector works better for me in terms of rolling speed, grip and braking, but then I am comparing a 2.4 3C Exo+ dissector to a 2.5 dual Exo Aggressor. Should also add that the Exo+ dissector got a slash in the sidewall that I tried repairing but after another few rides the cut got worse and it ended up in the bin. The aggressor looks a little tired now but it's still going strong (not the same tyre that I took to the alps but is it about a year old now).

Trail Boss 2.6" Tough Fast is the one. I've got it in 650B flavour and been really impressed over the last 18 months. Rolls fast, very well damped casing, good edge grip off camber etc, and decent wear too.

Might just order one too then. Pretty sure it's the same shop and they were very apologetic and it was sorted out so no complaints from me but thought it was worth mentioning.
