A guy I ride with is 6'4" ish, 16st. He's on his second 5. Loved the first one, but loves the second one even more.

Ton I am 6'4" and about 16.5 stone. Does me fine I think it is the best bike I have ridden, but I would, I am an Orange owner and we all know what they are like on here.
Great bike, I like it.

I really didnt get on with mine. I do feel big blokes will experience the low BB more with pedal strikes.

If I'm honest, I hated it. Head angle too slack for the BB height. Switched back to a Blur4x and I'm happy as Larry 😀

There are better full sussers out there- Specialized for a start. Take your pic from any of their line up.

Yep, 6'5" 115kg with kit, love my new five. Have spoken to mojo about getting the shock looked at to make the settings more appropriate, I've always preferred the downs to the ups but even with 150mm revs on I find it climbs well enough for me

Not being cheeky ton but the shock isn't funning a low ratio so will be pretty maxed out unless you go the coil route.

ton recommend him something else for the same price. £1,300 is alot for a single-pivot frame IMO.

i showed him a new specialized enduro, which he seemed interested in too.
i would buy the spesh, if only for the aftersales.

Really?

Is a Heckler not an expensive single pivot frame? Made in the Far East? By someone who thinks One man and his Dog is a cookery programme?

Quite possibly... but then are 99% of the bike ridden on here made that way?

So what would you suggest??

Scottchegg, I'm not recommending the Heckler. I am merely stating that I loved mine (back in 2004/2005).

Orange's- fine. I just dont think a aluminium frame made in Halifax should cost £1300.

Ps. Please dont get offended over a chunk of metal.

I am still riding my Blur4x (it was brand new hanging on a wall in CycleSurgery for over a year!). I previously owned one prior to buying a new Five for 18months. The Five made me realise that I shouldnt have sold my old Blur4x.

A £500 mistake.

In 2009 I remember reading a interview with the frame builder at Orange who said they specifically build their monoque downtubes etc to avoid dings and dents. Guess who dented his downtube within a month of ownership? 🙄

Nothing wrong with it. I just found it too 'nervous' steering. I like it slightly slacker (but not too slack) to give me more confidence. Better riders (and those who like Intense would get on with it)

I've also got my 16" 456. Its ace.

Why would that be the case? If you're worried about pedal strikes I wouldn't be recommending specialized either!

ton. I'd think back 'for your "friend"'....get him to think of one bike he loved, regretted getting rid of..then going back to it.

How do Chumba rate in terms of reliability?

I believe you had the 06/07 model? The latest XCL's have a 1 degree slacker HA and can also be run with a different rocker for even lower and slacker, if thats your thing.
