Theres a long back story to this after originally ordering a bike in July, being let down by a shop over unavailable/replacement bikes and final recieving a delayed order - its arrived:

This is my choice to consolidate my ageing winter bike and a sold SSCX to into a sub £1k road orientated 50/34 gravel capable ready-to-go bike.  It has a tiagra hydro built and I've some race blades to add on in the winter.  Its a tad different, I like it.  Right I'm off for a ride!!

What happened to my thread title?

Is gravel not mud in this country for six months of the year.?

Not in my local gravel tracked park and cable towpaths which drain very well.   This bike is mainly for long Sunday rides and early weekday recovery days around the park.

First ride is good. Feels solid, rolls very well and is nice and upright and comfy .  Love it already.

Looks really nice, gravel bikes are ace, although a 48:32 works well for me both on and offroad..maybe you are stronger!

Serious question....

Do you have to buy a smaller frame size to adjust reach as the hoods are so long?

👍🏼😎

Dayglo-camo makes perfect sense when fighting to preserve both visibility (and identity) the urban jungle.  Nice bike BTW, and I bet that thing pings off potholes and gallops over gully grates. I'm running 35c atm and don't wish to imagine anything less given the state of our roads hereabouts.

As a slight aside, literally every car we've owned here has failed MOTs on suspension/wishbones etc and related issues.  Local mechanic has confirmed (to give credit - minus a cackle and hand-rubbing glee) that the local road repair situation does equal good business.

I imagine* a Brompton would be swallowed whole in some holes.  There may actually be some down there.  Forgotten. With skeletal rider.  Like those Dartmoor tales of horse+rider below the mire.  All that is now visible of the rider and bike is a 1990s helmet which no-one can be arsed to pick up, so the mystery of the disappeared professor + Brompton remains.

*too much coffee.

😐 sorry.

Nearly bought one of these myself but in the end, the shop in question were a bit rubbish at getting back to me so I bought a different bike (Ridley X-Trail) elsewhere. Don’t regret it as it’s a fantastic bike to ride, but if it has one flaw it’s tyre clearance at the back – I’ve had to drop back to 35c after a brief dalliance with 40c (G-Ones) which were just too wide for the frame. Even the 35c doesn’t have acres of space to spare.

How have you found yours? It looked a lovely bike from the photos I saw…

I didn’t even think about it - that’s a 55 with 100mm stem I’m 5’11.5  I did notice they were long but it didn’t affect my ride last night.  It was nice and upright, rode like a road bike, and I did have a play on steep off-road 4m high grass bank as well and it felt fine.

Daern - I am only one ride on but it rolled really well and felt Uber stable.  Pictures don’t do it justice either - its a great finish, and there’s loads of little design touches such as the integrated guard, the front hose has a dedicated rubber clip of which the band goes around a flush indent in the fork, outboard bearings, 12mm axles with chanagble “chips” in the fork/rear stays.  Headtube is massive - as thick as my forearm!

I was borderline on size with mine (Ridleys have stupid sizing) and was worried about the reach with the longer hoods, but at 5ft 11" there was nothing in this world that would persuade me that I needed a "small" sized bike so i stubbornly went with the medium and I think it's 100% right for me. In fact, since I first rode it, I've not really noticed them being longer than the Force ones on the road bike.

there’s loads of little design touches

...and this is what raises a bike from "nice" to "awesome" IMHO. Small stuff that noone else notices, but just works. On mine, it's the cable routing - they come out right at the front of the headtube, not on the downtube as they are on most bikes, so there is absolutely zero chance of any cable rub around the headtube area. It's a small, but nice touch that I'm surprised isn't more common.

The GRANDURANCE is redefining the meaning of "street”. Countless smart detail solutions and tyre clearance of up to 37 mm

only 37mm, really?

The gravel where I ride is never mud.  Even after a downpour there are hardly any puddles as the drainage of the ground under the gravel is so good.  The best weather for gravel is around this time of year if going for fast times - in middle of summer it is too sandy underneath and in winter it is too heavy (unless it is around 0 degrees)

I dont, but jump on westcott cycles website theyve the whole range (discounted) there.

Only 37mm

i can squeeze my little finger either side of the rear tyre between the stays if that helps   This is deliberatly a road bike that does gravel and noe the other way
