Looking for places to ride. Is this cycle track any good? I’m near to Formby so did the pinewoods last week. Ideally after a trail that would take a couple of hours.
I've not been for a few years. It was good fun, but is very small.
Would take you a couple of minutes, not hours.
Yeah. Mins not hours, it’s about 2km from memory.
There’s a few jumps there, but for me you’d want to call in as part of a bigger ride.
If you’re looking in that area, then Pimbo is good if you want jump lines?
I’m after something like Gwydir Mawr/Bach (used to be Marin Trail) as cant go there due to current restrictions. A long trail out in the middle of nowhere would be great. What about Lee Quarry?

Tell me more about pimbo please?
Op - as mentioned Bickerstaffe is a very short loop of trail, okay for an hour to blast around a dozen times and have a play on the jumps / swoopy sections but not very inspiring.
I'm located near Formby and there isn't a whole lot nearby, Llandegla is the quickest trail centre to get to (but same restrictions as Marin trail currently), or head over to Rivington for some walker dodging bridleway action. Lee quarry is okay, but very exposed. I can't describe how windy it is there, you have to experience it for yourself. There's also Delamere forest but it isn't great in winter, Gisburn forest is decent enough or of course the Lakes for a bigger day out.
You need a fat bike. Not much elevation but loads of sandy trails around Formby and Ainsdale. Plenty to keep you busy if you don’t mind exploring.
@stevet1 I’ve knocked it on the head for today and will plan for next weekend now. Did a walk instead this morning. Finding it hard to be enthusiastic about a solo ride as I usually do everything with a group of friends. I’ll join a local mtb group as soon as I can.
Guessing Lee Quarry will be frozen if it’s that exposed. Not liking the idea of dodging walkers all day. It was bad enough when I went to Formby with my daughter last week as the walkers, who I understand have the right of way, made a point of using the entire path forcing us into the side. A bit of ‘power’ really goes to some people’s heads. If they’re like that with a 9 year old girl then I guess it’ll be worse if I’m on my own.
@freddiest Just bought a bike so not going to get another one. Hate the idea of a fat bike as much as I do an e-bike. Sorry, lol! Probably would be the best thing for where I live though.
Fair enough. There are some decent trails in there even for a non fatty. Best on a fatty tho with group rides a few times a week throughout the year and very little mud even in winter.
There’s also Delamere forest but it isn’t great in winter
🤣

It’s a new bike park that’s opened in Pimbo, just off the M58. There is a skills loop there, but the main focus is jump lines. They start at small tables, moving on to rollable doubles and then gaps. Really good, got to book on generally as it will sell out (never feels busy/rammed though which is good)
Been open since late spring/early summer.
A mate went to Lee Quarry today. There was a lot of snow...
