Any recommendations for summer weight bib shorts for a sweaty fella.
.
Endura FS260 or Castelli Free Aero Race 4. The latter are really comfy but a bit spendy.
Sportful Vuelta. Best chamois for me, no ridges, seams or changes in density to cause irritation
The FS260’s seems ok. Used them last year in the early summer months before switching to doing more mtb than road and using waist shorts for that.
Since Feb the road bike has been on a turbo trainer and I’ve used fs260s for that. Gets pretty hot and sweaty in the garage but the bibs have been great.
I don’t have a lot of bibs to compare to as last year was the first time I bought any. Now have 2x pairs of Fs260 and 1x pair of Planet X 365s. The Planet X ones feel hot and clunky in comparison - they hardly ever get worn.
Can anyone say what the sizing is like on the Castelli shorts (I seem to fit between two sizes on the sizing chart).
Does anyone use Assos shorts? My last two pairs were fantastic but are pretty much dead after ten years of use. I’m only asking because a lot can change in ten years
I tend to go to my Boardman bib shorts in hot weather rather than the Galibiers* which have too much material in the lower back area and which don't breathe as well. Plus one of those ultra-thin mesh vests which wick away the sweat well.
* Can't remember which model off-hand, but might be worth a look to see if they do a summer specific variation as the pricing is generally good?
@Ritchie_B sizing depends on what ones you buy. The Aeros I mentioned are race cut and I sized up a bit on them as I'm no longer young and svelte. I'm 5'10, 40"+ chest and 80-ish kg large were a good fit. I'm a medium in the Sorpasso kit though.

I'm a large in my castelli bibs and tights, and a medium in all other brands. If in doubt, size up!
How are dhb these days? I've got 3 pairs that are soon to be replaced. Probably going for whatever the latest version of good, but not super skinny pro, model is available. My current ones have been very comfortable under baggies.
Assos went through a point of being a bit rubbish but they are back to their best again now. Love the fit, chamois and comfort. Well worth the money.
Castelli sizes (very) small. I have the velocissimo's 1m84 83 kg muscular thighs though and I take XXL where in most brand's I take L occasionally XL. Size up at least one size from you normal size. My best bibs though and I have about 20 different ones
Castelli sizing is as weird as ever.
I’m 69kgs, 173cm and a large. A medium was very restrictive (and revealing!!)
Assos from 2019, size medium. Expensive, but ok.
Rapha Lightweight Proteam, really good chamois, nice and cool, but mine ripped within a year. First pair Rapha replaced second went in the bin.
I’m now on Le Col and Isadore. Isadore probably current favourite, but fairly expensive. Le Col with discount appears good value (£130 for jersey and bibs). The lecol sport are reasonably lightweight with perforated straps. No comfort issues. Size medium for me.
If it's to go under other stuff these PI Cargo Bib Liner short are pretty good and have stash pockets so its even easier to go packless for extra coolness.
Wouldn't recommend wearing them with nothing over the top with the mesh.
