As title....

My planet X bib shorts are starting to rub and become more uncomfortable as I'm doing more miles.

They seem to be running more on one side .

I've onky had them for about two months and they were fine to start with.

Should I persevere with them or use some chamois cream ?

Thanks

Steve

Chamois cream, especially when doing more miles in the heat. I use the Muc Off stuff, it's excellent.

Not convinced. If they are riding up then they don’t fit right. You could lube up. But so could Norah Batty.

My Planet X bibs (the clubman ones) seemed good at first but the chamois seems to sit in a weird position compared to other shorts, which I noticed on longer rides.

i binned then off.

Try a decent chamois cream. If it doesn't work, throw the shorts away and use the rest of the cream for cooking.

I had this exact thing. You could try cream but my instinct is that it won't solve the problem. New bibs might be the answer, a trip to Decathlon will sort you out.

Mmmm that's interesting as it the clubman short I have.

Any recommendations on bib shorts for around £50

Castelli, the pads are very good and relatively thin material, so don't get hot if worn under baggies.

It's the shorts, they're cheap for a reason.

Get a pair of Rivelo Honister off Sports Pursuit, exceptionally good for the money and on a par if not better than my Castelli with the Kiss air pad, and half the price

This being Singletrack, I'll chip in that my PX Clubmen shorts are some of the comfiest I own. I had a friend recommend Lusso as the comfiest he owns, but I can't get on with them. All depends on the shape of your undercarriage, bum cheeks and sit bones.

Regardless, for any ride over a couple of hours I use chamois cream. No reason not to.

The more expensive Decathlon bibs are pretty good - i think they're usually about £35.

I bought a pair of Rapha classics for £65 at Christmas in their sale (60% off). worth every penny, although i couldn't justify full price.

Another recommendation for these. Can spend all day riding in them without any discomfort. I also have various pairs of Gore and club bibs and they're also ok, but the Honisters are very comfy indeed.

I have Clubman shorts, they're ok but not fantastic. Decathlon 520s are better (have 2 pairs), though mine are on the small side for me. I've also got some Lusso bibs that are perhaps on the large side, but better pads than the PX. Favourite shorts are Funkier 17 panel bibs  - I have 2 pairs which I keep for longer rides (unless I've used all the others due to commuting so much)

edit - no I don't have clubman shorts, I have the Briko Zampilla bibs that PX were selling. Still not as good as the others though.

Just checked my shorts again and I have the union bib not the Clubman's .

These were more expensive than the clubman short so thought the pad would be better .

Surely creams cheap enough to just try anyway and if it doesn't help then its new shorts time?

And in contrast after years of being told to use creams by people selling creams I stopped using it all together with correctly fitting (for me... Not you and not him.over there ) shorts. No more have under cartridge issues been a thing on rides up to 24 hrs

It's true, very personal stuff and so not all will agree but I think you need the cream to reduce chafe whatever you wear. ime the chammy cream is 10x more to do with comfort on rides over 3-4hrs than the padded shorts. In fact, get good chammy cream and the right saddle and there's no real need for padded shorts, sports boxers and good 'baggies' are fine.

Trail Rat's post says how personal this is, I'm the opposite, way comfier on long rides w/o padded shorts and the cream can make the difference on a long day/s. Looser fit, better-breathing Kalf or Cafe du Cycliste 'touring shorts', thin sport boxers, the right saddle shape plus Assos cream if I'm out on a longer ride. Haven't worn padded shorts in 5+ years and have done enough long rides inc multi-day stuff that way to be happy with it, no issues beyond that caused by pressure x time and that's unavoidable. I prefer looser fit shorts for multi-day stuff anyway so that clinched it. Anyway, worth a try for some - padded shorts seem to be a default rather than an option and I'd question that.
