Another noob question about boring clothing for road riding.
Ive got some rouboix bib longs and other tights but have been getting a bit warm. Ive seen bib knicks for sale but are they just 3/4 length bib shorts or something different?
Are bib shorts/knicks the comfiest way to go??

Tights when it is cold out. Nov - Feb
Knickers when it is just a bit chilly through to warmish. Feb - April
Shorts when it's hot. April - September

Ish.

Tend to work more by temperature, below 5 it will be tights, below 10 it may be tights, maybe shorts and knee warmers, above 20 it will be shorts. I would rather be a bit warm than too cold.

Also depends on the weather forecast, if it is likely to get warmer then knee/leg warmers make sense, if it isn't then tights, knickers make more sense ( I find knickers a little more comfortable than knee warmers, just not as adaptable.)

Also to consider, if your touring you generate less heat so wear more than if your race training.

I'd always wear bib shorts, adding leg warmers to suit. Will often wear leg warmers on filthy MTB rides even if it's not that cold.

I guess there must be an intermediate garment like a knee warmer but I don't have any.

I wear them October to March usually, I don't like longs so wear three quarters all winter. Plus I'm hard

Winter bib tights for when it's really cold, otherwise bib shorts. I'd like some knickers (3/4 bibs) but can't justify the expense. I did buy some knee warmers for the chillier mornings but didn't really get on with them.

I have a couple of pairs, both in ded flimsy material even compared to the bibshorts I have - can watch my danglies shrivel (further 🙁 ) in the face of a even a mildly chilly breeze
Summary: Reasonably good for my knees, bad for my self-esteem
Get some thickish ones

Bib shorts all year round. Tights in winter.

Bib shorts always, supplement with unpadded bib tights when it's cold (below 10 seems reasonable) or leg warmers/knee warmers/bib knicks 10-15ish.

Bib 3/4 plus long merino socks. Then short socks, then shorts. I like my knees warm. At the moment, Roubaix 3/4 are fine but Am Fib windproof full length tights are too warm.
