do we have a current flavor of the month in bib shorts ?

after discovering most of mine are threadbare and in danger of getting me arrested i need to buy a few new pairs over the coming months.

i favour the fs260 from endura in the past how ever these used to be hard wearing and last me a number of years they have lightened the fabric and i barely got a year out the last new set i bought so im looking for something different.

Im looking for at least a pair of bib shorts and a pair of bib 3/4s atm - i will require more although i may suppliment with some of the club kit if it proves to be any good.

They must have a decent pad, i dont want the cheapest thing going but equally im not spending assos money - 60-70 quid is my budget per pair.

Discounted Castelli Evoluzione ? Kiss Air pad has a stupid name but is good for up to 100 miles and beyond on my sweet cheeks on my road bike.

Madison.

Available through every lbs, well priced, fantastic quality and a no quibble guarantee if the likes of stiching or zips pack in.

Got loads of their kit, it's ace.

I thought you were happy that you now had matching holes? (albeit more blood around the new one!) 😉

To answer your question, I've quite liked the Etxeondo one's I got pretty cheaply from Merlin last year. They don't seem to have them just now but I've seen them elsewhere.

woke up stuck to the bed sheets this mornign because of that wound in my back - they will still be worn but only under baggies in future 😀

went to find shorts to ride to work in this morning and discovered every single pair of bibs except for a red (what was i thinking) pair of fs260s that i never wear had holes in ......

so drove in.

Also those bars ----- they are probably the beginning of a new bike you realise that !

+1 for Howies - my favourite ones for under baggies.

On the road, it's hard to see past DHB Aeron Pro ones.

the aeron pros were on my short list ... was not aware of the castellis - they are around 50 quid from rose bikes. - MRS tr loves her castelli kit

I spotted the howies ones but ime of howies they are over rated and i feared they would be built to the 50 quid price point rather than being a good functional short.

On the road, it's hard to see past DHB Aeron Pro ones.

On this, I just bought a pair of DHB Classic Bib Shorts, on the basis that they are similar to the discontinued Aeron Race. Well, they're not. The material feels cheaper, they're not as neatly stitched, and the silicone gripper doesn't look strong enough.

I've got a pair of Gore I found on offer and a pair of Skins that are both really comfy.

I have 4 pairs of the Howies - 2 shorts and 2 that are 3/4's. There are very stretchy so uber comfy. One pair had some loose stitching after 6 months which I sent back and they replaced.

I think the pad in the aeron pro's is better, hence my standard for road use, but prefer the material of the Howies when under baggies - less slippery

Ransos

these are the updated Aeron Pro's :

here

An updated version of the Aeron pro shorts building on the Aeron heritage and moving it up a notch. An evolution of the species, the best just got better.

If it's under baggies - nothing beats the new Aldi Specials!

Big fan of Morvelo, especially when they have a sale and there is a new member discount aswell.

They are not cheap but anything to do with bikes is now silly money.

If you've liked Endura in the past then the MTR bibshorts are worth a go. There's two versions, a lite and a softshell with a water-resistant arse. Both feature the "cats-tongue" patch at the waist to match the MTR shorts.

One thing to bear in mind with Castelli is they size up small.

The pearlizumi eu online store often has incredible deals and I've found the Elite shorts super comfy on long rides (6hrs). Should be within your budget but you will need to see if they post to the uk

http://shop.pearlizumi-eu.com

Edit:I think if you sign up for their newsletter first they mail you a 10% off code but I think you also get that over a random amount anyway

I have Howies longs which are great, but shorts are out of stock until August.
I'm looking at the Sportful Light norain for £70 and the Merlin ones are getting great reviews for £45.

155 miles on a new pair of shorts is a seriously brave move, make sure you have plenty of chamois cream to hand.

its that or the people behind me get to see my ring piece 😀

its not gonna be a fast ride - its supporting the bike leg of a fundraising triathlon - the other 3 have to do a 12 mile run at the other end.

Ill be riding my tourer with the ancient brooks b17 on - could probably do the ride in jeans and be fine with that saddle.

Well im happy to report that the dhb aerons passed the acid test of 155mile. No chamois cream , no pain.

They are how ever shiny black lycra....look a big 80s leggings style....

But comfy.
