Not sure how many other people were signed up to do this on Saturday, but seems like a wise decision given the current state of the trials and the predicted weather.

Peak District Mountain Bike Challenge - Postponed

When: Saturday 17 March 2018

Where:

We are very sorry to announce that we’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone the British Heart Foundation Peak District Mountain Bike Challenge. This decision has been made following our recent event route checks, including analysis of weather and ground conditions, and the adverse weather forecast for this weekend.

A number of the trails we had intended to use still remain covered in snow and ice, whilst other downhill sections are currently waterlogged and extremely slippery. We have a duty of care to all our participants, volunteers and staff and with these current conditions as well as further adverse weather forecast, we have been left with no other option than to postpone the event.

An email will be sent out to all participants next week with details of the new date which we really hope you will be able to attend. We appreciate how much work has gone into your training and fundraising to help us fund life-saving research. We will also help with registration and fundraising queries you may have. Please also keep an eye on this page for more information. If you have any questions, please contact events@bhf.org.uk or 0300 330 3322.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone in advance of your understanding on this issue and for your ongoing support of our life saving research.

Weren't they told this might happen when they moved it from it's previous September date? I remember the warnings some people said when they moved it originally, not guaranteed decent ground conditions.

Yes it was.

The September date was a safer bet, why they elected to move it to March is still a bit of a mystery.

Gutted by this, was really looking forward to it!

Doubt I'll be able to fit it in in April as Fred Whitton training I've got planned is taking over.

Was also looking forward to this - don't get out to the Peak proper all that often, despite not living too far away.

Are they saying April for a re-schedule then?

No news on another date yet - apparently should know something in the next week or so.

Anyone else doing this tomorrow....what can we expect ground conditions wise (lots of slop? Fairly hard packed?)

We at PDMTB worked very hard with the organisers to find a generally resilient route. It'll always be sloppy in spots, but in the main it should be ok.

Enjoy! PDMTB will be there at the start geeing you all on! Come and have a chat about what we're doing.

Cheers for the replies....

Looking forward to my first taster ride in the peaks.

(does anyone know if there are feedstations on way round or will I need to pack some sarnies?)

Yep I'll be doin it tomorrow, think it's fair to say that dust won't be a problem !

There's 2 feed stations on the map, but 3 on the elevation chart ?

Yep it's been drizzle most of today and heavy showers on Tue/Wed/Thu so it's probably going to be a bit moist. This is the view of of the office window in Sheffield currently.

A friend and I are doing it tomorrow.

The impression I got was the feed stations are more like water top up points, but there are a few options to stop and buy food on the way round.

Just checked the BHF site for the first time since the cancellation and it now says ....

Complimentary water and snacks - including a limited amount of TORQ energy products (gels, bars & powders)

I'm doing it tomorrow - route looks good, forecast a bit ordinary but not horrible.

There’s 2 feed stations on the map, but 3 on the elevation chart ?

Think you might be looking at an older route posiwev? This year is going right round the reservoir - earlier ones look like they did Winstone Lee Tor instead, so you would pass the second feedstation twice.

Nope this year's route, the map indicates 2 stops at 22 & 57 ish with the profile indicating another one around 44 km?

Anyhow, my concern is the availabilty of parking at 8:00ish - when I intend arriving ?

Great event, weather turned out nice for riding as well.

Legs feeling that like. Climb up to Hagg side felt 'kin sharp after easy spinning round the reservoir for 10 miles.
