[Closed] Best Website for Mapping a Route?

I've used bikehike to create a route to calculate distance and elevation, which seems to work ok, but I can't see any way of saving it on the site for others to view.

If I wanted to create a route and get people on here to view it, what's the best software to use?  (preferably using OS Maps)

cheers

I tend to use ViewRanger

Preferably using OS Maps, you say?

Have you tried  https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/ ?

Subscription based, but I think it's only something like £20 a year.

I use it for every new route I create now, then export the GPX to Garmin Connect/Fenix watch.

We just subscribed to OS maps as well, my friend also rates it.

Definitely  https://www.plotaroute.com/ for a few reasons:

1. Snap to route, selectable for road, bike or path. BikeHike only did this for roads with Google (and it's broken now)
2. Good support for different maps (sadly, not OS, but OCM is pretty good these days)
3. Great UI but a fantastic mobile UI
4. Good support for exporting rides for Garmin etc.
5. Allows saving of rides (removed long ago by BikeHike as a condition of using OS maps)
6. Great tool set for editing rides (e.g. the centre part of a long route)

Have used it free for some time, but have just paid for it as I think it's worth supporting for a relatively modest fee. The free version is pretty much unlimited though. Hoping to see OS maps as a premium option in the future.

I use justgoride as well. There is an OS map plus map and satellite. You can keep cheeky routes private or publish them.

...I had a look, but the OS map wouldn't zoom for me - I had to switch to Google, zoom in and then switch back to OS - a bug? Also, the only snap-to-road is only available on the Google view which makes the OS view a bit less useful. That said, it does at least snap to major footpaths, which is useful. No route editing tools to speak of either.

Wonder if they'll hit the same licensing issues with saving routes that BikeHike did...?

Ridewithgps is good, albeit OSM maps.

I use RideWithGPS. Free site, loads of different maps to choose from and pretty easy to plan. I've also got my Bolt set up to auto download/upload to it so routes come straight across.

Nobody's yet mentioned Strava. No OS maps but arguably the easiest to use and with automatic routing between points, making route creation much less fiddly.

walkhighlands.co.uk

Specifically https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/ but you need to register (for free) to get OS 1:25k detail. You can plot the route and save as GPX or KML and it shows distance and ascent as well as a profile. If you're clever with browser zoom and screen rotate (in case your route is more portrait aligned) you can screen shot the map and print it out as a reference for your route.
