My road helmet strap is too long and flaps about in the wind, very distracting when going downhill. What's the best way for me to trim the strap without running the risk of the strap fraying over time?

Cut it with scissors and melt the ends? Think I've done that on a helmet before but depends on the material of the straps I suppose..
use a hot knife! get a sharp knife and heat it up on a flame and met through the fabric

Combination of the previous ones - cut with scissors, melt ends with a hot knife.
Don't use your best silver though. Second best will do.
I heated an old butter knife on the hob, went through the strap like, well, butter, and left a lovely factory-clean end, but did leave the knife covered in black mank.
