Hi Just wondering what is the best way to package a bike frame for as cheap as possible.
I've found Halfords are great for free boxes. Ask for a child's bike box if it's for a frame only. When I've asked for boxes before they have even had packing materials still inside!
Great thank you!
I've also take to just wrapping the frames up in cling film if nothing is around to protect them in.
I bubble wrap/bits of card wrap and then box, use plastic dropout spacers if you can blag any, if not then cut a piece of solid wood to fit and tape between the dropouts to protect the rear triangle from possible collapse due to overenthusiastic courieranderthals.
Can't beat newspaper to stop the frame moving around and plenty of padding front and back
Don't mean to hijack the thread but on a somewhat similar note...
What's the best way to transport a complete bike on an airplane? I guess there are suitably-sized cardboard boxes but how much would you have to disassemble the bike? Can you get away with only removing the front wheel, handlebars? For the handlebars if you have hydro brakes can you keep the lines attached? I'm looking at transporting a complete hardtail but want the minimum of re-assembling at the other end. Thanks...
Ive used grey foam pipe lagging for plumbing from b&q on main tubes of more expensive frames.
Free bike boxes from halfords too.
Cut holes centrally, in cardboard the same width as the box plus 6" each side.
Then push over the headtube, BB & seat tube junction, & fold as a "U" shape. Keeps the frame central in the box. If this makes any sense I'll be amazed. 😕
Pipe lagging is what I use on frames usually. Protect the dropouts, head tube and top of the seat tube, they're the bits most likely to be damaged.
Thanks for reply's guys.

I enjoyed that massively, was like reading one of my own involuntary cryptogrammatical epics 😀
