I use a handlebar mounted GoPro Session 5 on busy roads and it does a good job at picking up close passes and other misadventures.

However, perhaps due to it's position, close passes never seem as close on the video as they do in real life. The camera also unerringly points forward and recently I've had a number of incidents where it would have been much more useful if the camera had seen what I had seen and based my decisions on, rather than just catching the car in question as it shot passed.

With this in mind I've picked up a second hand Smart Remote and bar mount and am looking at mounting the Session on my cycle helmet.

Most cyclists and motorcyclists with helmet mounted cameras I've seen tend either to mount the camera on top of the helmet (on the crown of the head) or on the side over the right temple, I've also seen a camera mounted on the front of the helmet (just above the forehead).

Is there a particular mounting point that makes most sense from a road safety perspective? The obvious thing to do is try a few out and see which works best, but I have a single, adhesive backed mount that doesn't look as if it's designed to come off once fitted.

My current thinking is that there'd be less stress on the adhesive mount if the camera was fitted to the top of the helmet, but that's about it.

This is probably more to do with the wide angle lens than position of the camera so you may well be on a hiding to nothing.

Not sure I can see how sticking anything on your bonce will help with road safety mind* - should you need to rely on the helmet having a camera on top of it gives a smaller point of impact or something to get caught.

I'm in the "helmet good" camp, I'm guessing you are too if you're wearing one.

I think the FoV (Field of View) on that camera can be adjusted - are you sure you've not got it see in th widest mode?

I like to mount it on a friend so he can deal with all the faff.

Also having them ride 1.5m to your right vastly reduces the closeness of the passes you experience.
