Heat, soapy water and patience works for me

Yes, soapy water, preferably from a spray mist, and something like a credit card-sized piece of thick card to 'squidge' it down.

I tried the soapy water and it didn't work. I was using a sponge to apply it though.

I think the tape must be craP.

I've found it helps if the frame and tape are warm (might be a problem if you're working in, say, a cold garage). A hair dryer is handy to apply a bit of localised heat.

Warm room. Soapy water both sides, and loads of it. Razor blade to nick any bubbles you spot once it's dried/stuck.

What tape?

I've had good results with a nice clean frame (IPA), a hairdryer, credit card and a good amount of patience. Done two frames now.

Clean the area, cut a good shaped bit of the tape (don't be over ambitious), apply the tape from one end streching as you go, then heat it up with the hairdryer and work the edges to get rid of any bubbles.

This was with the JRA tape.
