realised these highlands winters are going to demand a better set of waterproofs than current set. Price really not an object as i'll be commuting through the winter and will need some top kit.. any recommendations pls

my paclite trousers have held up for a long time - partly because they don't get constant use - and are quite breathable.

the paclite jacket i bought at the same time is however dead as it is replacement paclite as they are not very robust and if you carry a bag it will wear it out.

my latest replacement jacket is gore proshell and is robust but FAR less breathable.

I gave up with trousers, my legs are waterproof 🙂 - but use a light waterproof shell - paclite.

Endura Stealth jacket works for me, and normal winter tights (optional waterproof shorts and knee warmers for when it gets really wet/cold).

i reckon you should order a big variety of stuff, incl some nice new icebreaker merino (all in L please), then have a look at it when it arrives and punt the bits you don't want to keep on here 😀

I'm using a Freestyle Goretex jacket with pitzips. Had it for years - reproof it twice a year and it's still going strong. I use a separate jacket for mtbing (Gore Goretex with liner)

On my legs I use Rainlegs or Gore Goretex waterproof trousers. Rest of my gear consists of a baseball cap or peaked mountain hat, Windstopper gloves and goretex shoes. When it drops way below zero I swap to a Buffalo jacket and merino top, waterproof trousers, and Specialized lobster gloves, Buff round my neck, and a mountain hat. Most of my commuting is done in my work gear at a gentle pace so as to avoid having to change at work (3 miles each way).

My bike also has full-length mudguards with mudflaps.

The gore fusion is a fantastic jacket for commuting - very waterproof, breathable, warm and comfortable.

It's almost time to start wearing it again and its such a good jakcet that I look forward to doing that - yeh I'm said, I know.

new icebreaker list on its way to me so iainc i'll keep you posted (the real fleece kit is wicked)

liking the rainlegs

my commute is a 30miler round trip with 2 nasty hills so breathability is main driver for kit choice

Endura event jacket & trousers.

Jacket is great but leggings can get a bit too warm. I find Event breathes better than Goretex.

Alp X GTX shorts are pretty good in lighter rain - keeps the upper legs dry and you stay cool. But they're pretty hopeless off road as I cant wear them comfortably with Kyle Straits.
