Have never ridden in snow before and wonder what is the best type of tyres for this?
I was thinking mud tyres might be good for virgin snow but what about when it gets packed down into ice?
Otherwise I'm tempted to go for my usual tyre choice: whatever happens to be on the bike 🙂
Snow tyres? I have a set of conti snow studs - chunky tread for soft snow, ti studs for ice

I'm looking at my newly mounted Ice Spiker Pro 29er tyres - 361 tungstan spikes per tyre- bring it on!
Your normal winter tyres, just run them a bit softer for a bigger tread contact.
I found Nobby Nics down at around 18psi very good. the pressure was initially unitentional but worked well!
HR II
I picked a bad day to run Small Block Eights didn't I?
Studs. Mud tyres are ok in soft fresh snow but when you have any ice to contend with you will be riding safely over with studs instead of hitting the deck hard.
As long as it's not a slick, does the tread matter much on a 2" tyre? IME - no.
For me its the same tyres I ride all year round, let alone winter... Its only snow
Thanks!

Panaracer Trailraker. Probably no good for ice, but fine for Snow.
