Have never ridden in snow before and wonder what is the best type of tyres for this?

I was thinking mud tyres might be good for virgin snow but what about when it gets packed down into ice?

Otherwise I'm tempted to go for my usual tyre choice: whatever happens to be on the bike 🙂

Your normal winter tyres, just run them a bit softer for a bigger tread contact.

Studs. Mud tyres are ok in soft fresh snow but when you have any ice to contend with you will be riding safely over with studs instead of hitting the deck hard.

As long as it's not a slick, does the tread matter much on a 2" tyre? IME - no.
