About to go tubeless. Have the tubeless wheel and UST tyre but what is the best sealant to use.

I've used Stan's for all my tubeless tyres without any problems

Make your own. Great thread on mtbr about this. Cheaper than the rest and will outlast them all.

In my very humble opinion, as you are doing it "properly" (ie. UST tyre and tubeless rim), so don't need the sidewalls sealing, then I'd go with a non-latex based one such as the Continental stuff or Bontrager Super Juice. They will last a lot longer without drying out compared to latex ones (such as Stan's) and will seal punctures perfectly well in my experience.

Everyone else will be along in a mo to tell you to use Stan's.

Do NOT use caffelatex, it is a pile of shite and I had to scrub it out of my tyre.

Used Joe's no flats. Didn't work too well for me compared to Stans which I now use.

Predictable bunch, aren't we 😉

Thanks guys for the help. Done some research and the general opinion is super juice is fine for small thorns but struggles to seal bigger holes but the Stans does the job,as i will be doing mostly downhill stuff, being a big guy and off to Morzine in two weeks Stans it will be.

I started off using Bonty Superjuice. But it was utter gash.

I now use Stans for TR and UST. Not so much for the sidewalls on the latter but more the amount of times that I've pulled a huge hawthorne out of the tyre. Stans seals.

i'd just like to add: avoid the Specialized stuff. I bought 2 bottles - poured the thick gloopy muck away and cut the bottoms off to use the bottle as a handy funnel for inserting Stan's fluid into my tyres!

Agreed, I bought all of the ingredients to make Wadesters WSS V1 and made up the first batch a couple of weeks ago. Saw evidence of it working on Monday evening's ride and it worked perfectly.

Total cost per litre works out at £6.26 vs. Stans at £27.46 (£12.99 per 473ml bottle) 8)

Stan's is all I've used tends to be good for thorns/glass, I have pinched a few tyres tho, stans may seal the hole on the main carcass if it's not too big but doesn't seal the one on the tyre bead IME. Does anything work on this sort of thing?

Stan's or Joe's.

Caffelatex sealed nicely, but dried out in weeks and covered my tyres in rubbery goo that wouldn't scrub off easily.

Fenwicks is brilliant - if all you want is something to stain your clothes and patio blue. If however, you'd like something to actually seal holes in your tyres then look elsewhere. It emphatically DOES NOT seal holes up to 6 mm in diameter, nor does it cope with sidewall pin-pricks. Avoid.

Stans seems to do the job best IME . I do however object to them selling "pint" bottles which are US pints which are 16 fl oz instead of UK 20fl oz . Must be the only thing the US has that's smaller over there .

Here it is, at the bottom of the second post - I'm using the V1 mix with pure variations at the very bottom of the second post:

WSS V1

I managed to 3 out of the 4 ingredients from shops/businesses close to home, so I avoided postage. The one that I couldn't find close-by was the Propylene Glycol USP so that added £3.49 post and packing to the total cost.

If you're worried about bigger gashes in your tyre then I'd def recommend those anchovy things. They've saved my bacon a couple of times

1 Propylene Glycol USP
2 Ultrapure or Distilled water
slime? this stuff?
latex, is that mold builder mentioned further up?
sorry, it may well be explained in the thread but that's 90 pages to sift through, can you give us a clue please?

Latex - this stuff: Clicky

I use half/half latex and water. Never had an issue with not sealing during inflation or puncture. Mega cheap and refill at the start of winter each year. Usually still some liquid in the tyre after all that time. About 100ml of mix in a tyre but some comes out so id day closer to 80.

Made my own batch of Sealant following the above recipe that I got from MTBR forums a while ago. Anyway... I can tell you categorically that whilst it worked, it was not as effective at sealing holes as Stans, and it certainly dried out a whole lot quicker!

I've used a few others too. None of them are even remotely as good as Stans sealant. I know Stans is Latex based, but it just doesn't dry out anywhere near as quickly as the rest of them do! It's not cheap (buy a quart rather than a pint and it's a bit cheaper per litre at least), but it really is the best stuff for the job.

Blimey, sealant lasting a year?! My Stan's dries up in about 3 months. Good stuff though, I haven't felt the need to try another brand, just bought some more.

Apparently the Propylene Glycol is added to stop it drying out as quickly and to avoid it freezing in the winter.

The ATV Tubeless Slime (supposedly) has "Fibro-Seal Technology" - sounds good doesn't it - that seals holes up to 6mm. This, combined with the latex seems like a logical mix.

Anyway, mine's only been in the tyre for 2-3 weeks so I'll keep an eye on it and see how it lasts.

By my reckoning it only has to last 1/4 of the time of Stan's and I'm in pocket 8)

I use Stans, because it works well and it's easily available- some brands don't mix well so consistency is good.

Stans does work but isn't cheap. I used to make my own with moulding latex and slime. Now I mix stans with ATV slime which doesn't dry out and has big rubber bits that seal big holes.

Just to be different I've never had Stans or Joes work but love Bonty Super Juice. There's little blue dots on my tyres where it has worked.
I won't use anything else.
Has anyone ever replicated that bit in the stans video where they ride over the plank with nails in?
Edit, its still liquid after 6 months.

Weirdly, i used bonty juice on bonty wheels with bonty tyres and was totally useless. Have used Stans for yearsand albeit needs a top up every 6 months ( using a syringe and remove the valve) I leave well alone. only once did I get an issue, which involved a tube being fitted in 5 years is testament to it working.

Bonty superjuice is rubbish . If you think it works you must have never had a hole in your tyre because it won't seal . Interestingly Trek , who are now pushing tubeless road wheels have come up with a new , latex based sealant which they say took a long time to formulate because they were trying to make something better than the market leader - Stans . I have used JRA wheelmilk and it is good but Stans just seems to last longer . IMO nobody has made sealant that works well and is not Latex based .

As with regards to making your own, if you goto the mtbr thread they change the formular to a more pure form which is cheaper and is designed to not dry up. I've made this up and have the original batch still in my tyres since October and it seals really quickly. I use modelling grass in my mix to help seal bigger holes.
