I have a friend who wishes to return to MTB riding. He wants to ride trail centre reds as a general guide. If he can spend less than 1500 he will be really happy. He is 5'6" tall so will need a small. He wants new not SH. He has been looking at Scott Spark bikes. Is there anything else he should consider? I have mentioned the Boardman and BC deal but there isnt a small un stock anywhere local....

Gotta be some deals to be had on last year's 2016 bikes as the 2017s are already on shop floors. 25% off most 2016 Spesh, check Paul's Cycles too.

Kona Precept 130?

Not ridden one but they have them in my LBS and look pretty good for the money.

Vitus escarpe? Bias as I have one.

But can get 10% off by joining British Cycling and that makes them even better value.

Wish I could find a T130s under 2k, but seems they all sold and now on to the 2017 model!

I think he fancies full sus. He has a 20yr old rim brake hardrock...so im sure something modern would be ace!

I did spec a 1x11 Bird Zero today with Dropper and it was £1600 with basic Revelation fork.

Seems cheaper than most 1 x 11 Hardtails out there - if I go HT that will more than likely be my choice!

With the Zero would really consider the X-Fusion fork options (if they still do them).

Edit: Appears that their online shop is down for a re-build at the moment...

I have access to the new shop as they wanted feedback from potential customers - no x-fusions anymore (or at least for now). Cheapest forks are the Revelation RL on the 1x11 or sector silver on the 2x10

I put one together and it came in at £1599.

Revelation RL Fork (RCT version is + £60)
SLX 1x11 (GX is £4 difference so down to personal taste)
SLX brakes
DT Swiss E1900 with High Roller tyres
Raceface bars/stem
Reverb Stealth Post

The only thing that put the price up from standard 1x11 build was the dropper post but at £245 its pretty good value.

You can get a stealth for less than that, especially if you shop at tesco.

Saw one for 220 somewhere, I'll have a look. Then get Evans to price match and get double value tesco points.
