Something to fit 28-32mm tyres. To be fitted and ridden, not just as a get-me-home spare (though that too). 60mm valves.
Currently running Pirelli P Zero SmarTubes on two bikes plus two spares as back ups so 6 tubes at a cost of around £150!
No punctures yet, valves seem sturdy, meant to be ok with Co2
Have heard good things about RideNow TPU tubes which are cheaper
(going by below it seems im wrong!!!!)
Not RideNow. Total shit. And that's not just my opinion (but I did find out the hard way) - check the Radavist review.
Tubolito are supposed to be OK. RideNow are utter garbage.
Watching with interest, after being let down by several Ride Now tubes.
I've had okay results with RideNow tubes - but I wouldn't carry them as spares.
I do get more punctures with them than I think I'd get with butyl tubes (but kinda hard to say - I only run them on silly small wheel bikes). I do wish you could get them in slightly thicker variants.
Only one experience of RideNow which was disappointing, picked up a pinch flat very quickly and seemingly without actually hitting anything! However I don't believe a tube would spontaneously develop two perfectly aligned holes like that so not sure I can blame the tubes.
It still sort of put me off so I ended up back on latex tubes for an extra 45g...
I have run ride now tubes in my road bike since about March. One puncture zero issues. I very much doubt they are the "best" though
I went through this process a couple of months ago. Ended up digging deep and getting Tubolitos. BikeInn were the best on price at the time.
AliXpress. But look closely at the valve construction and attachment before you buy
I've got Ridenow tubes on 2 bikes at the moment. The track bike has the older ones with metal valves and the road bike has them with plastic valves.
No real complaints over either. The road ones are both patched and now have slow leaks but I didn't really put any care into doing it so they were possibly greasy and not roughed up before patching which won't have helped. They're still good for ~72h though.
Sounds like there have been / can be QC issues for others though.
But considering they can be had for <£3.50 each, and AliExpress are really quick with refunds if nesecary, it would take a lot of convincing me that £20+ tubes were somehow better?
not just as a get-me-home spare (though that too)
I've had butyl and friends have had you tubes fail because they've been unused for too long. Not much you can do about that but just don't buy too many at once as spares if they're going to be unused for years.
I have had OK luck with Ridenow tubes on my summer road bike, 1 rear that just suffered 3 successive cuts and I gave up on patching and a front that caught a chunk of glass (that would have done for any tube.
But I do fear they're a bit delicate and maybe I should have opted for the 'heavier' versions. Other people have had issues with the plastic stemed versions and quality/finishing seems hit and miss.
The trouble is that the more 'mainstream' brands seem to be asking ~£20+ for a TPU tube, does that buy you more reliability/durability? And that £40 extra (£60 if you want a spare) feels like quite a lot to be spending, like more than the difference to a half decent pair of road tubeless tyres now(?)
Are the likes of Schwalbe, Pirelli and tublito actually just trying to make road tubeless look like less of a mark-up over tubes?
I have had no issues with RideNow, been using for around 1 1/2 years. I got the odd puncture, but no more than I'd expect with butyl.
They did start using a new valve recently, not sure if that was becasue of issues. The newer ones have a translucent/white valve.
