Hi all
Having brazed a few road/touring frames Im designing an MTB frame which will hopefully be the first of many... Im looking at which thru axle dropouts/standards to use. There seems to be very little in the way of comparison of the different thru axle systems online, Its all QR vs thru axle and normal vs boost...
Ive only owned syntace X12 on my MTBs, mostly through luck rather than judgment.
As I need to buy and make tooling for this Id like to choose a rear axle standard and stick to it... So which is best? Im looking at being able to build with either 142x12 and 148x12 but which threading? there seem to be 3 main contenders:
Syntace
Shimano (12x1.5)
DT (12x1mm)
Im considering the following:
best from an engineering point of view
easiest to get spares for
simplest to build into a frame and align after brazing/welding
not going to be obsolete any time soon
cheers!
