Was just about to buy the galibier mistral pro 2 jacket, seems to get good reviews but noticed you need to maintain the dwr coating , can’t be annoyed with that. Any suggestions for a waterproof breathable jacket.
Royal Racing Matrix is about that price if you get the discount code at Tredz.
Or have a look on Freewheel as there's a lot of Madison kit on sale.
Third option my mate has the Decathlon mtb jacket that's £80 and is really pleased with it and he goes out in all weathers for 100 milers.
I've just got the Galibier Tempest
Is it getting to that time of the year again 😕 Summer is over and we look forward to rainy days.
Decathlon m 500 jacket with pit zips.....it is the pit zips on any jacket that will help massively with breathability.
@fudge9202 sadly it didn't rain today so I have not used it in anger. It does fit in a jersey pocket though 👍
What’s the sizing like?
Keela Saxon is an excellent light jacket.
Made in Scotland and stuff.
@fudge9202 sorry, missed this last night.
Sizing is pretty accurate, an XL is a good fit for my 41-42" chest. It's a snug fit round the waist.
Proper "on bike" fit, short at the front, long at the back, long arms for reaching the bars. If anything I'd say the arms feel a little puffy, not as tight as their windproof I also have.
Really really impressed with my decathlon jacket, really well fitted, breathable, good goes over your helmet the list goes on.
Anyone use a separate waterproof hat?
@SterlingCrispin I do have a Keela Saxon and it’s an excellent jacket but not that packable for a Jersey pocket, I use it when on long gravel/mounts rides in my dakine hotlaps. I’m after something for shorter rides from home which will fit a Jersey pocket. Cheers @morecashthandash for the sizing I’m 44” chest so might need to go to 2XL
Cheers for the advice guys, after reading lots of reviews and checking the sizing guides I opted for the RC500 Decathlon waterproof jacket 👍
I bought a keela Saxon a few years ago after a reccomendation on here, might have been FGF, apparantely all the guides use them.
Utterly crap jacket. First time it rained it got wet through, waste of money.
Columbia Outdry is about the only jacket that has worked for me. A bit weird plastic mac appearance with the taped seams sealing on the outside but the go to jacket over on Bearbones. Shop around for prices around £100, white ones currently £66 at BrownBox
I’ve got Columbia outdry but useless shape at the back for keeping your arse dry. Very short. Great jacket thought but not what I want for cycling
Was just about to buy the galibier mistral pro 2 jacket, seems to get good reviews but noticed you need to maintain the dwr coating
Won't you have to do that with pretty much any waterproof jacket apart from Gore ShakeDry and the Columbia OutDry Extreme stuff mentioned above?
Yep. Anything DWR coated will need waterproof maintenance. Even gore tex eventually needs treating
Just picked up the RC500 from Decathlon. Feels very nice and a good fit but no armpit zips.
@mjsmke none in my local store so waiting on delivery , how’s the sizing?
@fudge9202 it's a similar size to my Altura pack a Mac. I'm a size small 5ft5 and 58kg. The size small fit really well and not too baggy. Could probably fit a couple of base layers under it too but not a thick winter jersey.
If it had pit zips it would have been perfect, bit without them it'll be a boil in the bag type jacket.
Great I think someone said earlier that it had armpit vents. Perhaps I misread it
That Decathalon is barely water resistant according to the rating. I don't have one but won't expect it to do much, especially over time
British army issue MTP light weight jacket is made using a goretex material.
Not sure on the fit but can be had for 30/40 quid on eBay.
What about this waterproof combo

And

The AM decathlon jacket looks good, has extended cuffs that sit over your hands doesn’t have zipped pit vents but has flaps
The MH500 is 15,000 waterproof and awesome
I have two of them
Kept me dry in some insane weather
Just reading these I should have clarified that I need the jacket to fit in the rear pocket of a cycling Jersey
I bought myself the Nukeproof Nirvana packable jacket after Christmas when it was heavily reduced, 75 quid I think. Brilliant jacket, properly waterproof, Insanely thin and light, good sized hood that folits over a helmet, breathes well and packs into its little chest pocket so ends up not much bigger than a coke can! It looks really nice too, I wear it as an everyday jacket too if its raining out. Only thing it needs is some little toggles on the hood drawcord to cinch it up, I bought some of amazon that have worked perfectly. RRP is £150 though I think, but they do regularly get reduced on wiggle/crc.
Tenner over budget, but fits your needs perfectly otherwise.
what do you think of the Tempest?
It's great, but I'm not sure why they describe it as 'breathable', I've not seen much evidence of that. I bought one because it is very light and packable.
So the hunt continues!!
Decathlon jacket arrived but fit was not great on me , tight around upper arms and shoulders but ok in the torso. So might order Galibier Tempest to see if fit any better or any other suggestions welcome
Hi - just wondering if you found anything. I'm on the same hunt looking for winter gear and tried the Decathlon jacket and also found it a bit tight around the upper arms.
Oh and did you try the Decathlon waterproof overshorts as I've got my eyes on some shorts as well.
I know it is a touch over, but how about

Gore, Paclite - what more do you need?
I want to replace my Endura MTR shell but Endura don't seem to do an equivalent now.
