I traditionally ride flat pedals, but for my new Down-Country 'all seasons' bike, I am thinking of going back to using SPD pedals (which I always used to use) for the increased efficiency on the longer 'spinny' days out.
The last time I used SPD's I was using the Shimano 530 Trail pedals which were great. I now see that there are lots of options out there.
The question is, whether any of these pedals can offer any form of 'comfortable support if I use them with non-SPD shoes. For example, if I want to ride down to the pub or go to the park with my son, it would be good to know, which pedals offer the least intrusive contact experience for regular flat shoes.
(lightweight would help too!)
I like Funn Mamba pedals. Nice big platform.
The M530 is being replaced this season. There was an article about it on here last month. It suggests that the new pedal will offer a bit more support than the 530 ever did.
I’m using these on my runabout… Shimano T421.
Wow, who knew you could still buy DeoreLX stuff?
I have some of the Shimano bear cage things...

I use them for pottering about to the shops and stuff, and they're perfectly adequate for doing so. Lethal in the wet and not enjoyable in any conditions for any kind of serious riding, but ideal for the circumstances you describe. Probably not the lightest though!
Those Funn Mamba pedals look fantastic... my only worry is that sod's law will dictate that when i want to clip in, i will get the flat side, and when i want the flat platform, i will get the clipped side... lol
still, looks like the best option so far.
I've just spotted the KCNC FR Trap single sided SPD pedals. They look pretty awesome and are very light too (371g a pair), but they don't have nearly the same size platform as the Funn Mambas (88x69 as opposed to 101x102). The Funn Mamba platforms seem pretty much in keeping with the DMR Vault et al platform sizing
