I need to buy some new chain lube...and given the arguments about how well they work and the fact my bikes are almost covered in sandy grinding paste, I figure what they smell like is probably as good a measure of their quality as anything else.

I've noticed some manufacturers must add nice smells. Muc-Off is pretty pungent, although I think Finish Line Wet lube is the best i've smelt yet (i keep some in my work locker for wet days, maybe i should try some as cologne?)

Any recommendations of other aromatic chain lubes i should try?

TIA

Its not lube, but I find the aroma of GT85 in my garage most invigorating on a morning.

I'm a CT18 user when it comes to cleaning... Might be an Aussie thing only. That's non-perfumed though.

Peatys has a mint flavour.... I'm still undecided about how good it is but wins on the taste test 😆

Hard to decide between GT85 and MucOff shine and protect here.....both have a certain panache

For bikes it's as above, GT85, any Muc-Off product, Fork Juice and Peaty's Link Lube.

All beaten by Castrol R though.

Castrol R has the best smell ever, but I don't think it's very good as chain lube

Peaty's wins it for me - minty fresh drivetrain.

All wrong - it's Pure Dry Lube. Smells like fruit

http://index.weldtite.co.uk/products/detail/dry-lube-100ml (Halfords sell it)

Purple Extreme smells of efficient slickness when applied. Or Crayons.

It needs frequent reapplication for wet conditions - so the smell is a bonus!

It's not intended as a lube, but, no garage chemical smells better than ACF50. It's like GT85 wrapped in marzipan.

Muck Off C3 Dry.

Smells like apples.

I've no idea what GT85 smells of but its definitely a nice smell. Someone should do a garage air freshener that's just the fragrance.

Nearest bike shop to work had a pretty poor selection... And they wouldn't let me sniff before I bought any. Ended up with Morgan's extra dry. I'm a teeny bit nervous about opening it to find out what it smells like.

I don't know about the best, but I know the worst.

It's smells of used gearbox oil, and if you want your bike to look like the aftermath of crude oil spill, it's the stuff to buy. Muc-Off Wet lube has got NOTHING on this stuff, it's really terrible in every way.

I guess it makes it less likely a child would drink it...

Maxima has a lovely cinnamon smell that reminds me of american coffee shops. Unlike many of the above the wet lube actually works too without the crude oil look after one ride.

I had a bottle of chain lube that smelt like cat sick once, I don't recall using it more than once. I can't remember who made it but I hope if I see the bottle again it'll trigger a memory and prevent me from making a poor purchasing decision.

I had some Muc-Off dry lube that smelled of bananas. I think wiping a banana skin on the chain would have smelled the same, been cheaper and a more durable lube. The least durable dry lube I've used so far.
