After a light and durable single speed chain. What is the best one out there?
Any chain will do, unless you're after a 1/2 x 1/8 'bmx' style chain.
I tend to buy whatever 7/8 speed chain is currently cheapest on CRC or Wiggle. Never had a chain break in about 8 years of SS riding.
KMC Z610 HX Chain 3/32"
end of thread 🙂
Don't, whatever you do, buy a sram PC1. This is the definitive 'made-of-cheese' chain
KMC something or other with RB in the code.
Thanks chaps
As others have said I always use a 7/8 spd chain. Avoid PC1.
SRAM PC991
Avoid the Wippermann 708 as well. I tried it as it was recommended that as a bushingless chain it would last longer than a 9 speed chain. I had to adjust after every ride due to the slack that was developing, at 68 miles there was .025" over 6" of chain and by 107 miles it was worn out. The maintenance was exactly the same as the 9 speed chains that regularly go 700+ miles.
The PC1 is also a steaming pile.
