Hi - we are selling an equestrian saddle and it appears to be too large for the usual delivery services. It is approx 1m x 1m x 0.80m, weighs approx 6kg and would need to be insured for £600.
Who is best for such a service?
Thank you!
Ignore - I think Parcel Force Large Parcel suits us.
This is when the Pony Express would come into their own, shame they're no longer around
I always use parcel force for frames. They will collect for only a couple of quid more as well.
On a related note, does anyone know of a reasonably priced service for sending MTB handlebars?
The length makes them oddly expensive at my normal places.
We've sold 2 or 3 and from hazy memory we settled on UPS. I would have thought you could get it a fair bit smaller than it's natural open size, unless it's some huge thing. I tend to find a big box, realise it's too big, untape/unfold it and reassemble it to the correct size, then tuck the saddle flaps together i.e roll the saddle up, wrap in an old towel and then loads of packing. We've bought/received them from saddle dealers like this too. I try and find firm foam slabs (or stack lots of cardboard layers into a block) and tape them into the box where needed, like where the rear seat of the saddle is raised and liable to damage to the leather. I find it easier to pack into the box upside down and this means it's not squashing the flaps under its own weight.
Take pictures of each packing step and reiterate to the buyer to save packaging until confirmed all ok, you need all the evidence you can that it was suitably protected... We've been lucky and had them all arrive ok.
You'll have to create a login with UPS, not as simple as the Evri types to send the package but on the flip side it's often priced fairly competitive when you want insured/tracked for bulky stuff.
