A combination of perfect weather and a fantastic route made my ride today the best since last year.
Since December, I have been a bit down in the dumps, and although I ride every day (commuting), and try to get out for more substantial rides at weekends, the weather and other factors have not exactly made it the most pleasant experience.
Today, however, things just came together.
1. I bought a Wahoo Element, which means - for the first time ever - I was able to go w-a-a-a-a-y beyond my normal comfort routes, and ride roads I didn't even know existed. I have only been able to do that in the past by using my riding partner as my navigator!
2. Traffic, once I had crossed the very few busy roads I needed to cross, pretty much non-existent.
3. The scenery was incredible (as always, here in South Wales).
4. As I was climbing up one long road, another cyclist joined me, and we stayed together for a good number of kms, chatting. He was a really nice guy.
Anyway, it's good to be alive. I hope others' weekends are going as well.
Like!
Hoping to get 50 odd Spring miles in on the roadie tomorrow and new ebike coming next week so I'm looking forward to saying farewell to the crap weather and all the bloody mud!
It's nice when it all clicks 😀
I've had a nice two weeks Easter Holiday, riding pretty much every other day. Been very wet and muddy at times, but it's been great.
Tonight's ride especially - blue skies, drying trails, spring flowers, loads of wildlife, and not another sole around to be seen.
Nice, I did my normal local loop, quite quickly as I removed all my low gears. Felt good to put the power down. Still muddy though.
Did a hilly 65k today - first road ride of the year. Have been off road and spinning throughout the winter. Very pleased up the hills - more strength than for many a year. Topped off by a 1k swim. Good day.
Also, loving my Wahoo too having ditched Garmin.
Great news SaxonRider
i also enjoyed my happiest ride of the year so far, not so many miles, but stopping and chatting to al sorts of folk along the route really put a smile on my face
Was meant to be leading a health ride for the council this morning but no one turned up, so I went home and got the road bike out, did a nice local loop I've not done for a while at a decent pace for me, checked out a new cafe, and ended up in short sleeves and a slight glow from the sun!
Cracking morning from a disappointing start. Hope every one else gets the chance to get a good one in this weekend.
Me too! It didn’t have all the hallmarks of a good ride, I didnt really have enough time, I had to fix my bike in the back of the van before I started and I’ve been lacking a bit of mojo of late.
But...
i arrived and it wasn’t wet and it wasn’t cold! No base layer, no jacket, no shivering as tried to warm up.
Just as I was getting ready to go a mate turned up, neither was expecting the other to be there.
I was ON FIRE! Rode with half the effort and twice the speed, 9 PBs on a trail I’ve got 50+ previous efforts on.
Ended it with not much time to spare, said bye to my mate and realised I didn’t have to strip my riding kit into a sloppy mess and shiver Home - just hoped in the van and left.
