Is Dolgellau a good place to use as a base? We're looking for nice rides, nothing too technical but no too easy either.
One of the rides is going to be Penmachno for sure.

where are you planning on riding? but the tradional answer is betws y coed. Very near the marin and about 10/15 mins driving to penmachno.

It's good if the rides you have in mind are CYB, Pont Scethin, or Nant y Arian (still a fair way away) - has a couple of decent pubs/restaurants.

Going n-s in Wales takes more time than you think, though, so if you're flirting with the idea of anything much further north than Beddgelert, it might be worth a rethink.

Heulwen Guest House in Llanfachreth near Dolgellau is excellent and close to Coed y Brenin. They welcome groups of bikers!

Yeap. Good base for CYB and Climachx just down the road.

Alternatively there's Machynlleth a few miles south which has the easier Mach trails straight out of town and the Climachx easily ridden to via bike paths and quiet roads, and CYB is a short drive. The Dyfi forest also contains some pretty epic riding.

Couple of good bunk houses in Corris too, as well as The Slaters' Arms. 🙂

At Trawsfynydd Holiday Village we have Log Cabins that are 2 miles from Coed y Brenin, 20 minutes from Antur Stiniog and 30 minutes from the Marin Trail, Penmachno Trails and the Mach trails. Price depends on the time of year you are coming, you can check prices and availability online if it helps www.logcabinswales.co.uk 🙂

We ae based in the middle of Coed y Brenin, right on the trails, so you can roll out your dour door and get on most of the routes here straight away. We are happy to advise on the trails here for you.
I have also been doing a few rides outside the forest recently. Post Scethin and the Cader Idris circuit are a short trip away, or can be ridden from here for a longer ride.
The Cli-machx trail, the old Marin trail and Penmachno are all a short drive away and I would recommend for you.
Plenty of riding to fill 3 days and more, we would be happy to plan out a few days for you.
We have B&B and self catering accommodation here, and can be found at www.mostyncottage.co.uk or give us a call.
