I've got a big clear out this weekend and I'm not looking forward to using eBay 🙁

I'm going to stick stuff on here for a couple of weeks first before I resort to that pit of misery!

Absolutely effing nowhere!!!

The classifieds on here seems to have died a death, the Facebook groups everybody wants it for half price and wants to swap a dodgy XBox with a handful of crap games for it, eBay charges you extortionate fees and then the buyer raises an undelivered item case against you half the time and gets their cost returned to them until you can prove 100% that it has been successfully sent to the correct PayPal verified address, and PinkBike is full of daydreamers...

I’ve rapidly come to the conclusion that we’re back to the old school rules of “He who dies with the most toys wins” I’m afraid! Let the hoarding commence...

The classifieds here has died a death since the forum updates. Pinkbike is just hard work with a load of kids and eBay is rediculously priced with zero seller protection! Really struggle selling bike stuff on facebook. Just too many morons! I still preserve with STW, but largely nowadays I sit on kit or give it away.

eBay or here, can sell items for 5% less on here and be better off than selling on eBay though.

Here first and formost, but for realistic prices - ie what younger get for it on eBay, less the fees.

2ndly eBay when it doesn't sell on here.

We've got a local riders facebook page with an associated for sale / wanted page, for local people. I've sold lots of bits and bobs through that, although nothing high value.

It's really quick to snap a picture with your phone, post it and some guy turns up at your door in a few hours, cash paid and done. Can't really be bothered with ebay for stuff like that anymore. Any extra cash is outweighed by massive faff, postage costs and risk of buyer disputes.

Classifieds here mostly. Though there is a lot of over priced stuff being repeatedly posted at the moment!

I used to put it on pinkbike and put the link on singletrack. On pb it's Easy to add photos and relisted items but since we can bump stw ads I might just not bother with pinkbike?

You can sell anything at the right price.

If I have no or little faith in an item I put it on ebay with an honest description at 99p no reserve. I never want to sell something that might fail to a fellow stwer, e.g old forks or repaired frames.

yet you'll happily unload it on PB or Ebay. Nice

What your user name on both so I know to avoid.

I try here first had some really good no fuss sales and purchases, ebay is a nightmare nowadays. The only thing is on all platforms is sellers always over value the kit being sold, yes it cost £600 rrp but you paid probably £450 in a sale its 6 months etc old and you want offers over £375. Be realistic unless of course it demands a premium price as the market dictates. The most annoying for me is ebay Best Offer option why do sellers use it and refuse all offers unless its £10 away from the buy it now, just price eBay it at what you want in the first place.

Bruneep read my post again. User name is the same,

Repaired frames go on ebay (not pinkbike) with an honest description, photos and 99p no reserve. Have you not heard about spares or repairs? I never said they would go on pb.

Also forks with scored stanctions. Again go on eBay with an honest descriptions, photos and no reserve.

Sold a salsa horsethief that had the rear triangle repaired professionally. Buyer bought it knowing it had been repaired. Sold it with spares for £67 (minus fees)

I got more for it than I was expecting. Its easy to put a wrong price on something and sell it cheap. Sometimes it's better to leave it to market forces.

Be honest in your selling and let the buyer be aware.

The alternative is to leave it in a shed or take it to the tip!

Ebay has its place.

I have used pinkbike a lot more recently. All the complete bikes and frames I have sold have all gone to Eastern Europe though. That is where the 2nd hand market is apparently!

Never sold on Ebay, Had alot of success on here. I find if its priced right then it eventually go.

Peatys Bike Bonanza has been great for me, had a stall every year since it started, its good for stuff that we have had but is to expensive with postage.

I work on the proviso that if I wouldnt be prepared to use it then it goes in the bin.

I also wont sell to, or buy from, people who have messed me about in the past.

I buy on here and facebook groups. I sell through facebook and word of mouth mostly. If I get anything reasonably nice in, I'll end up chucking an ad on here too.

What are people’s thoughts on the new ‘bumpable’ classifieds here? Seems to be that ads go off the front page a lot quicker?

All three are useful, but all three are also a bit slower than usual recently.

Depends what you're selling, transmission, brakes, chainsets always in demand here.

eBay or Pinkbike tend to be better for forks.

Frames, it depends what kind, PB better than here for the more gnarly stuff, whereas I'd put a steel HT here first.

Most people are perfectly pleasant on all three platforms IME. One recent ebay bellend proved the exception.

Absolutely effing nowhere!!!

+1

My older stuff gets boxed up and stuck on a shelf in the workshop or in the attic then pulled out and usually given away/traded for beer/whisky/wine if someone is in desperate need of it.

Had enough of time wasters and dickheads.

Never get any interest on here so sell for more on ebay. Issue is the fees but I keep getting offer emails which are pay only £1 when sold etc, handy when selling frame and forks.......still have Paypal fee but not too bad

It used to be like that ages ago. I imagine at some point it'll be fixed to be like it was before the upgrade.

TBH it depends on what price you expect - Expect haggling if its on Pinkbike / classifieds / facebook, expect low price and to be hit by fees on Ebay.

If you're selling to get rid then Ebay it and post it properly to protect yourself (even though this costs more in fees) If its something that you don't have to sell then pop it on the classifieds or pinkbike. Just remember that there is plenty of kit already out there, and if its overpriced it wont sell...

It's amazing the tat that will sell for £10 on ebay with a BIN and best offer listing.

Had a bit of a clear out recently and it all adds up nicely.

Even with the eBay fees/ and PayPal fees I have made more money selling items on eBay compared to offers I have received on here. I always post signed if it is over £20.

The international postage is really good now as I only have to pay the domestic shipping to the eBay distribution centre and they take care of the rest.

I just sold a racer I had. I put it on here / bike radar, Facebook classifieds and eBay.

Facebook had a massive number of view - about 350 in 24 hours and I had a few messages about it. But someone from the eBay advert got there first on a buy it now.

So if you want free adverts then go with Facebook classifieds. You will get some numpties offering you silly money but just bump those back.

Disadvantage to eBay is obviously the 10% sale fees.
