199 GBP

Calibre bikes

27.5 "rail" hardtail:

In size s, m , l available.

More or less an outdated design - but for 200 GBP is great value.

In support of the Calibre Rail, a work mate picked one up to get into mtb a couple of months ago, and is loving it and currently thrashing around the Peak like a loon. In many way's, whilst it clearly lacks some of the modern tick boxes, I can't help thinking it's as capable as many of the hardtails I've rode around the Peak for years on and paid way way more for!

😒

haha.

One of my bikes is an Calibre bike as well. The Bossnut V2.

And yes - there are some pre-assembly quality issues, the soft paint, the lousy Formula hubs - but for around 1k ...- excellent, excellent trail bike! Made the RockShox Sektor "small service" recently. The bike now feels better than ever! Biked it over winter time and now in summer around three times a week. And I'am not pampering the Bossnut.

Calibre Rail: don't really know this bike. And guess for 200 GBP you won't get the "perfect" bike. But guess Calibre is able to surprise in a very positive way!

I don't care about the weight of mountain bikes. Bikers which feel very sensitive to bike-weight: o.k. - Calibre bikes are on the more heavy side.

Thanks guys. That Calibre rail looks good. I might have to investigate. I just can’t face a steel frame, V braked halfrauds Apollo special ..

Classifieds? Online auctions?  Bound to be better deals on offer than new.

The Calibre looks ok for £200 to me if you want new.  For towing a trailer you don’t need anything s****y. You also don’t have to worry so much about it being nicked I suppose.

Or, you could look on eBay and see if you get lucky. I previously got a Kona full suss from the late 90’s for £150. The fs design wasn’t great but it had Easton alloy tubing and lightweight wheels etc.

27lbs ish for a fs wasn’t bad at all. V brakes though - they were generally fine - it was only pummelling down long downhill sections like Cafell at Cwmcarn where they weren’t really up to the job.
