Other than "on the bars" before some smart arse chips in.

Wife wants a reverb. She has hope tech brake levers and deore 9spd shifters and she wants to keep to windows. This just about works currently with the shifters between the brakes and grips. Doesn't leave a lot of room for a reverb under the bars? Anyone managed it? Pics would be helpful if you've got them. Not sure how much room it needs until I get my hands on it but I'd like to have a solid plan before we order it.

Cheers.

I've had mine below with new Shimano brakes & 9spd shifters and there isnt enough room, I ended up just using 1 'sidetoside adjustment' bolt in the shifter and it was still a compromise. The shorter lever blades on Shimano dont help matters. Im hoping someoen comes out with a widget to fix the reverb to shifter / brakes.

I guess the easy answer is to run it on the top but underneath just seems to make more sense.

Will take a pic of mine tonight if I remember, but I don't run shifter windows. Basically though, on the left side of the bars, grip-shifter-reverb-brake. It's pretty tight, and I can only use the LH shifter in one direction, but it works and is better than having it on top!

I've tried my right hand lever in a few positions.

Normal (right hand above the bar between the brake/shifter and grip) worked best in terms of being able to adjust it as often as I liked.

Left under the bar but inboard of everything was OK in terms of keeping it protected (I crashed loads with it on the top with no ill effects so no the issue people maybe thing it is?) but meant it was just a more conventiet QR, i.e. it could be adjusted while stationary/slow, but having to move my hand off the grip to reach it meant it was impractical mid decent.

Going 1x10 so putting it inplace of the LH shifter looks neatest, but feels lightly odd (the buttons travel isnt where your thumb would naturaly push).

TBH I think it might end up back on the right anyway even if I keep 1x10 as it just felt more practical/usefull there, even if a little exposed.

I'd like SRAM to build somethign like tis though........

LH shifter, with 1 lever, push it foreward with thumb to pull cable, push upwards to release, either that or double tap like the road bikes, either way 1 lever. And a smaller lever behind it where the release lever is on normal shifters to do the reverb. That would be ace.

EDIT: why not try some SRAM shifters? The old rocket/attack shifters were shimano 9 speed compatible, I don't think theres a 10 speed version.

I would suggest losing the shifter window on the LHS (front mech) side is less of an issue than on the rear, and it will open up more possible positions. The only way is to try it all and see what works.

This is mine... worked with an XT shifter as well, but I didn't try it with indicators though.

1x10 under the bars on the left is ideal.

My Mrs has 2x10 though, so I could do that with hers. It was all a big compromise under the bars with a shifter, brake & Reverb lever, even using a matchmaker for the brake/shifter.

It 'kinda' worked with an X0 shifter, because you can change the thumb paddle lever engagement point to sit further under the bars & out of the way of the Reverb lever, but the shifter was still a bit of a whacky angle.

Hers is back on the top of the bars for now. Not a lot I can do about it really.

Its a fairly rubbish design IMO. Although no as bad as the new Fox one!

I guess in all fairness, it would work fine on top of the bar in a location it was designed for.

Why is rapidfire (etc) so much better than thumbshifters were?

Because you don't have to lift your thumb above the bar... below the bar is best(est).
