Hi all,

Looking to buy a new lock to replace my recently angle-grinded-in-half Kryptonite Evolution S4 lock.

Prior to its demise, my main bug-bear with it was the frame mount ( https://www.evanscycles.com/kryptonite-transit-flex-frame-bracket-u-kit-EV165837) - it is always a faff to fit, and invariably allows the lock to rattle around when riding on rough streets, and was also tricky to slide the lock in and out of.

So, any suggestions for better mounts? Open to thoughts on bar/saddle mounts. The less permanent the mount the better too. I'm wondering whether I can do something better myself with some velcro straps and rubber strips...

Thanks,
Duane.

I have 2 relatively shitty locks with awful mounts but that's all fixed by a velcro strap.
Locks are "mounted" to the seat tube but then strapped to the down tube. Works great on my partly off-road commute

Abus granite x plus here

I put some grippy tape under the mount to stop it slipping. Has been rock solid and travelled well over 12,000 miles attached to the frame of a bike

I'm tall so ride a big frame, my d lock can fit inside the frame which helps a lot

Just found this, looks pretty perfect..!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zefal-Doodad-Pump-Clip-Black/dp/B005I4GVQA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_200_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=CA4BXT5NP31XX2DXA3R2

Will allow me to attach the lock easily to frame, but also easily take the mount off if I want "clean lines"/need internal frame space when bikepacking etc.

Look at Two Fish Lockblocks as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fish-Lockblocks-Flashlight-Holder-Black/dp/B001CJXB5E/
They can let you hold a lock on the bars etc. Though it depends on the thickness of the bars, and the lock. Can be tricky to get it tight enough, without rattling.

Planet X have a big Twofish one for big locks: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BLTFMBXL/twofish-megablock-xl

However, when I bought some stuff from them recently, I chucked in a coupl of these for 99p each: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOBYFH/nrg-bike-inflate-and-repair-frame-holder

I've used it to take my Kryptonite New York lock, which normally lives on my commuter (on the original bracket I bodged years ago to bolt onto to bottle cage bosses) on my road bike for short trips to the pub, etc. I've also used it for a spare tube - it's the rubber block thing that's the important bit and that looks pretty similar to the Twofish one.

Re. rattling - I've found all D locks rattle - my solution is a few wraps of electrical tape to form a bit of a bumper where the end of the U go into the bar. Wears away eventually but lasts a few months of commuting for me.
