What's your favourite current paintjob?

"Current" defined as a bike or frame that is now on sale brand new, latest (or near) model, so 2024/25 range.

Name the bike as well as just posting an image.

We're talking paint only, irrelevant where the rest of the bike sits on the G scale*.

(* Gopping<------->Gorgeous)

I've just seen this and thought "wow that's nice, wonder what it's like in reality"

Specialized Status 170

And of course one of my all-time favourites is the Production Privée Shan GT in BRG

Trek seem to go out of their way to restrict the interesting paint to the cheapest and most expensive ends of the spectrum.

The Trek Marlin (with Suntour  / Alivo)

The top tier Madone:

Their every-day £2000 road bike, what should be the cornerstone of their sales, the mid-spec 105 Domane, they'll do it in whatever color you like as long as it's black.  And it's not even a nice black, or metallic, or black with a colorful flek, or even just a deeply polished shiny black, it's matte.

Is picture posting borked for everyone or just me?

Tried the insert image button, square brackets img /img and pointy brackets.

Bird Tuscan teal looks nice in photos, haven't seen it in person. I like the look of the Stanton teally kinda blue as well, though I think if I was getting a Stanton it'd have to be British racing green.

Raw is the best colour on any bike though.

I agree that Trek do some lovely paint jobs, usually sparkly....

I think Genesis have done some lovely colours - purple sparkly and more.

Cotic deserve a mention as well - lovely metallic green or pink/purple - oooh, niice

Ultimate Candy Red. Technically it’s powdercoat, but here we are (Rå .410, but anyone can have their frame done this colour)

IMG_0338

perhaps soon to be superseded by Ultimate Candy Blue, but we’ll see.

Isn't candy a finish rather than a colour? Like the old Salsa "Rootbeer" frames, it's a base colour with a different colour clearcoat over the top so you get the impression of the depth of the paint (like the candy apple it's named after)?

@onewheelgood thanks, it’s an Intend Edge.

@tinas yeah, base of chrome, then a translucent red over the top, baked at gas mark 6, turning occasionally until nice.

@tomhoward I'm trying to see how close your ultimate red is to my Curtis , looking at the Ral chart on the Curtis website shows Telemagenta next to your number . Sounds so exotica !

I approve btw ! But reading again the chrome base is what gives it that pop , shame to get it dirty ! Definitely a shame to change it !

It’s this

https://www.powderfx.co.uk/product/ultimate-candy-red/

It does get dirty, honest, when my body is compliant/working! No plans to change this one, but once my current project is finished, that might take the crown 😉IMG_1913IMG_1914

PP Have done a few decent colourways - always fancied one in Gulf colours. The blue on mine is really nice close up with a lovely metallic fleck

The green on my old Kona always got favourable comments too

More recently, Ragley have had some stunning colours - the copper Mmbop being one. My Big Al is boring white though

Stripped our S Works Stumpy down ready to sell on. I think the colours look amazing as it changes in the sunlight.

Production Privee are never beaten imho.

Screenshot_20241217-104404

A lot of brands do lovely single colours, but I think the whole thing PP do 'borrowing' inspiration from classic racing liveries just looks beautiful.

My Gulf Shan looked incredible. Not current though

I think it's difficult to not go over the top on a bicycle, with small tubes and not really that much paint real estate. But I think PP bikes always look understated and classy. (Until the punters start sticking gaudy anodised stuff all over them!? 🙂

Another DIY effort.

I fancy one of these now though...

roots

EDIT: Image compression is absolutely killing the vibrancy of these colours. They look so much brighter in the original files.

Had a Gulf colours PP Shan, it was a lovely looking thing.

Brown's a hard colour to pull off at the best of times, and IRL it's a very particular shade of diarrhea poo. Sorry

I have to say some of these are very nice, but none of them really float my boat like the classic Zaskar Team colour scheme.

The weirdness is

Gulf Oil on a whole bike - SHUTUPANDTAKEMYMONEYYYYYYYYYY

Shell sponsor BC and get their logo on some supported athletes shoulders in return - epic mass flounce

Shell should have a blue and orange logo and we'd be fine.

Sour bikes do some great stuff for just a little bit more than Cotic money. The way my gravel bike sparkles and changes colour in the light is amazing.

Not interested in fancy paintjobs much, and colour fades don't do anything for me, nor homage to motor racing. Beyond the simplicity of a raw ti finish, I think the current Stooge colour pallet nails most of my favourite colour choices, and more importantly with minimal graphics/decals.  https://stoogecycles.co.uk/stooge-shop/

My all time favourite was probably the paint splatter on drab olive arkose SS

ISEN do some rather lovely work (at a price). This stainless steel hill climb bike came in at 5.4kg!

I've never clicked with the PP paintjobs myself, but it's good that they are doing something different.

Personally, this is my favourite colour of the year:

Raw is the best colour on any bike though.

I played it safe with a raw Bird and I really wish I'd got the lairy "blurple" colour instead.

That Orange is nice to be fair but purple forks's are a bit too far imho. Black fork with the purple spring would be great.:-)

You just know someone will buy that and stick purple ano bits all over it and it'll be next level too much.

The Orange is artistic meets marketing department genius though.

1) Take the most lairy uncoordinateable high-end fork on the market,

2) Get your color wheel out and make the only frame on the market that will actually compliment it

blog.midnightvelvet.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/15/2017/07/x_0_0_0_14089856_800-300x300.jpg

3)  Proffit

Credit where it's due - that Sour hardtail looks so good. Classic fades are hard to beat and the fork and crank finish it off. Like it's not trying too hard for an impact either.

The Isen looks great. Great finish and I like the skinny fork and head tube.
