Looking for a decent quality pump, small enough to carry in a pocket, that’ll do Presta and Schrader, road and mtb tyres. Shorter the better as long as it still works reasonably well.
What should I look at?
Silca Tattico?
FWE
You won't get one that is good at both though. Narrow bore means high pressure but low volume, so you can get road pressures but you'll be there all day with a 29x2.5, and vice versa.
Not a Lezyne Alloy Drive. I’m a Lezyne tart and it’s a nice pump, but the fact it rattles is fairly unforgivable. Think I’ve managed to now sort it with some heatshrink, but it now means it’s hard to get the hose in/out
Aye I know they’ll be a bit of a compromise there.
Topeak Race Rocket is pretty good.
This road pump and I have a stubby telescopic MTB one that doesn't appear listed any more. Hands down the best pumps I've ever had in 25 years of riding.
There seems to be a direct link between length and usability. I'm yet to find a good short pump.

Try that Race Rocket above, it’s what I should’ve chosen
That race rocket has a bit of a reputation for damaging valves. I'm sure there is a degree of user error but it gets mentioned a fair bit and would be a bit annoying if it did happen.
I'm not convinced that there's ever a requirement for a road pump. I'd only take a mountain one in case I had an issue that needed a partial top up.
Not that mini, but if you want a pump that lasts, actually inflates tyres and won't brake the bank I'd have to recommend the SKS Injex Lite.
Tried a ton of trendy uber compact pumps over the years but they either fall apart, get clogged with dirt or simply can't air up a tyre in any useful way. I keep going back to my trusty 8 years old Injex
I like the Blackburn mammoth co2fer pump
It’s cheap on Merlin and hides a co2 cartridge inside a fat pump.

I'm tellin ya - those FWE ones are superb and mini.
Great thanks
Got this after experiencing the oft mentioned Lezyne-vale-core-removal. So far so good. Small, seems solidly made and (despite average product pics on Evan's site) there is a good thumb lock lever.

I hadn't heard that. What sort of damage?

I agree, but most of my road mileage is on a gravel bike at around 60psi rather than a race bike at over 100psi.
