anything better value than the rimpacts? my original rimpacts (not pro) are now quite loose and baggy but have lasted well almost 2 years old
dont want the weight of cushcore etc, but the new trail ones look slightly more appealing, for general riding, but the price is still eye watering
are there any new alternatives to market since the rimpacts? i like how they dampen out the trail more than anything else, so want something similar, they do seem to absorb sealant the older they get though which is annoying so maybe a different material version might be worth a try
oh and something easy to fit like rimpacts is a must!
Someone posted Tubolight inserts yesterday, which are priced close to rimpact but half the weight, they look interesting
I'm leaning to Conti Enduro carcass instead of Exo+ with Rimpact myself
ive not seen them before will check them out - i do like the rimpacts for the money but wondered if any newer ones had trumped them since i last bought 2 years ago
I have Huck Norris, nukeproof ARD (not yet installed) and Aldi floor tiles penny for penny the floor tiles win. I can even double them up for Alps. Huck's are pretty ruined after 3alps and 1 seirra Nevada trips.
I'm not sure why I bought the ARD when the floor tiles work so well, pita cutting them is probably the reason.
Ermmmmmmm okkkkkkkkkk tiles it is
anyone used the new cushcore trail yet or are they not out in the wild yet?
I’ve had cushcore xc’s for 18 months now and they’ve been easy to fit and forget.
Hey @jambo
thanks for reply - do you notice they stop trail chatter and offer any dampening like the rimpacts do? That’s the one thing I’d miss is I I like how they make the bike feel, almost like it’s a bit more softer suspension and traction wonder if the xc/trail ones don’t get that added bonus and only there to lower pressures and stop pinch flats?
Hopefully by floor tiles he means those interlocking foam matting squares and not the self adhesive ones 😀
How would the floor tile thing work??
no idea what the cushcores are like in comparison. they are the only inserts I've used.
they definitely give a more damped feel than without, I don't run super low pressures (20psi-ish) but I've not trashed a tyre since fitting.
LOL - i genuinely thought he was just being sarcastic in a typical STW forum memeber kinda way - seems i may have been wrong
@jam-bo - thats cool least you can tell with the XC cushcore that they are doing something more than just protecting the rim - the damped feel is the best thing about inserts for me as i never really flatted before having them, but i absolutely love the feel they give especially in winter
Huck Norris for me, +size ones both ends in the Stooge (27.5 x 3.0), and a regular on in the back (I think!) of my Orange Five (29 x 2.3). Proper fit and forget, very lightweight, and don't cost the earth.
The XC’s take up maybe 1/3 of the volume of a 2.3 maxxis. The bigger the volume I guess the less you’d be able to feel them.
Aye, you were wrong, was trying to throw an alternative option in but you know.....
These cut to a suitable width, suit the lightweight part, with holes up the middle you have rim protection. Foam density is higher than Huck Norris. Take three lengths or so for a 29er wheel.
