Need to upgrade a couple of groupset bits, going with XT rear mech and shifter but not sure on cranks.
XT would probably do but you're paying for rings I don't need. XTR no good due to different bolt offset on the new ones.

Carbon worth going to? Standard 73mm threaded bb shell, don't think much to SRAM normally but the £140 2x10 X0 carbon cranks on CRC seem good value? Again paying for rings though.

Anything else to consider? Need to be standard 104mm PCD for single ring. Googling suggests XTR M960 cranks and taking a grinder to them would be a good option.

I run M960 cranks, light and stiff - what more could you want. But they are 7 years old now, so it might be hard to find good ones.

And can't you just run whatever size Middleburn ring?

Excuse the link, I'm on an iPad and don't know how to embed on it but:

104 e-13 32t ring on new style xtr 2x10 cranks, not the triple set.

Not standard BCD - 102mm, and heavier than M970s or 980s. Look pimp if you do the Jones conversion, but there are better options out there IMO. If nothing else, the market is much bigger for 970 or 980 rings if you're buying the whole chainset new.

If you want light perhaps look at Rotor. Never used them, but the 3D is fairly cheap and light.

If you get the M985 double as above, make sure it's the smaller ring version, the 28/40, 30/42 etc have an 88mm BCD. Not insurmountable - I got a custom ti ring from Experimental Prototype, but more faff.

Best would surely be SRAM XX1 at the moment? No rings to sell and no need to buy a £100 chain guide... if the stories of the "magical" chainring are all true.

If you want anything other than a 32t ring you'll need to buy one separately, plus you need a Shadow Plus/Type 2 mech. Good option if you neither of those apply though!

I've got a set of RF Next SL Carbon cranks that I'm looking to get rid of. Drop me a mail if you're interested.

The XTR "trail" cranks are standard 104 BCD. It's only the "race" ones that are bigger (I own both).
