Hi all

What would you recommend? I know cash unlimited the answer is exposure but they’re out of budget.
So far I’ve been looking at magicshine, ravemen and lezyne….

TIA

I'd have recommended an MTB Batteries light but it seems Smudge is now out of that game albeit still supplying batteries.

MBUK this month says this is the best in your budget:

That lezyne one looks good on paper but I've had 4 lezyne lights fail on me so I'd not be inclined to have another one.

The ravemen pr2400 is great value at the moment from this seller - £110 including the auto discount and promo code CRISP15

The higher end Lezyne lights are pretty good, but honestly, £150 will buy you a really good condition 2nd hand Exposure Toro or Maxx-D, and that's where my money would go every time for that price...

I'm testing this at the moment, 1700 lumens, usb and wireless charging, Bluetooth remote, action cam or Garmin/wahoo etc mount in a pretty compact size, 5 colours (not that that matters in the dark obviously) and can be used as a power bank. It has a wide "off road" beam setting and a narrower "commuting, car friendly" setting. Up to 4.5hr run time on highest setting. Moon titan, had a few rides with it so far and it seems good. Will do a few deep woods night riding on it this week and report back
Costs < £80

Max. Lumens: 1700LM (FL-1 tested)

Max.Runtime: 140 hrs (FL-1 tested)

Max. Intelligent operation standby time: 140 hrs

Battery Type: Li-Ion built-in

Recharge time: 2:00 hrs

Size (W x D x H): 62 x 48 x 56 mm

Weight: 153 g

What will you be doing - commuting on the towpath or gnar in the woods? I found that a two smaller handlebar and separate helmet light really help seeing the path ahead, as well as where the bike is pointing and adding useful shadow. Also, what battery life will you need as I figure anything over 2hrs will likely need an external pack.

Woods gnar(ish). Yeah I’m looking at about 2 hours battery time at full whack ideally

I’m already sorted for helmet light, just need one for the bars

I bought a Knog Blinder Pro 1300 last winter and have been very happy with it - good battery life and gives plenty of illumination. It has a yellow rather than blue tint, and a broad beam pattern, which I really like. It would give the 2 hours you need - I use it as my main light to complement my helmet light that has a more focused beam (and is only used in technical sections where I'm unlilely to encounter anyone coming in the other direction).

As mboy mentioned above, second hand exposure.

I picked up a second-hand exposure maxx-d mk9 for £150. Fits all your requirements and is infinitely serviceable at their UK site.

edit: just looked at eBay out of curiosity and it seems i did quite well bagging mine for £150. YMMV
