I've been using a Garmin Edge 205 for a few years now mainly to record rides that I go on led by others, or to follow rides that I've downloaded from Garmin Connect, Strava etc.
Trouble is, when following a course on the Garmin, it doesn't show any arrows on the line you're following, and if it's a ride that criss-crosses about a lot in a small area, it gets very confusing. Garmin will argue that a course is not intended as a navigation tool, so they're not interested in solving my problem.
Does anyone know whether the more expensive Garmins or their competitors get round this problem? Or is there a feature I'm simply missing? Some people have suggested switching to compass mode but I don't really find that useful, I want to have some advance notice of where the trails's going, with arrows to show the direction. Any ideas?
I've had an Edge 305 and an Etrex and you don't get arrows on the screen as such. With the newer models you can set it as a route and then it will follow the sequence of waypoints but then sometimes thinks you've taken a short cut if you cross a path and bumps you a few waypoints along.
To be fair, I don't ride many routes where it continually criss crosses.
I do the odd figure of 8 where I split the .crs file or route into 2 to avoid confusion. If the course only crosses the same point once or twice, your easiest option would be to split it into separate courses.
you need to set waypoints and store as a route not a course. It'll do the arrow thing then.
