Hi, I know this is a bit of a long-shot question, but has anyone replaced the battery in their Garmin Edge 800 AND had something good to say about the battery they bought?
My Edge 800 has been more or less bombproof and accompanied me all over the world, so although there are newer options, I'm quite attached to it, but its battery is not lasting as long as when new - perfectly understandable given it's about 12 years old! There seem to be a few options for aftermarket batteries but some of the reviews say the battery life drops dramatically within the first few months of use, a sign of a bad battery.
If anyone has any useful experience on this, please let me know!
I'm much the same with my 800 but it has not really been the battery that was the issue it is the corrosion in the USB port that had driven me to replace it. I've replaced the base of the unit twice this includes the battery, the USB port and the card slot.
I've found replacements on Ebay - both came from China and have been fine. Unfortunately I don't know the make of the battery that was supplied - not much help I know.
The thing i like about the 800 is that you can set up different bike profiles.
not the 800 but I replaced the battery on my 1000 quite recently and it really helped. The thread is here
Has anyone change the battery on a Garmin Edge 1000? - Singletrack World Magazine
I bought my battery from subtel.be but they also have a UK site. The make was CELLONIC and I've been very happy with the result. The battery wasn't quite as good as the original but it's close enough and the life hasn't died off since I've had it
Intrigued to know if it was difficult to replace the batteries, anyone who has done it?
Thanks all! - the CELLONIC is the battery available on Amazon, and probably the one I'll try.
Keando, I've had similar issues with the USB port on mine. It would charge but not connect to the PC. I've cleaned it out with contact cleaner and an old toothbrush countless times, it's still holding out.
I like the different bike profile thing too. And that it seems to charge pretty quickly when I plug it into a USB battery.
Looks like I'll give the Cellonic battery a go!
@Duggan, its fairly easy to do. There are a number of videos on Youtube. You may need some tools for the small torx screws to open up the device.
@Pierre, I did the same cleaning process with mine until it gave up the ghost and wouldn't connect to the PC any more. Good luck with the new battery.
Interested to hear how you get on as my 810 (basically the same) has a poor battery. Lasts about 7-8 hours against the original 12+ when just recording and have been using an external battery to boost it when needed but a new battery would breathe new life into it I think.
Thanks all! – the CELLONIC is the battery available on Amazon, and probably the one I’ll try.
I went with subtel rather than Amazon because I'm never sure of getting genuine batteries from Amazon any more. Price was good too and delivery was fast
