If the temperature is low, then an Endura Stealth, but it has to be chilly or you will burn up ( n my experience)

OMM Kamlieka smock, far better than any mtb specific jacket I could find, decent price and very packable too.

Altura Attack is very good... Durable, I managed to rip mine but to be fair teh same crash also ripped me and my bike quite a bit But like any other heavy duty jacket, only for cold days.

Tried an expensive Altura Attack X, and the zip died at Strathpuffer after a few hours.

They all make you sweat, so you can't really beat a bit of dhb 😉

Yep, I like the look of these, will probably be my next MTB jacket.

If you are looking for just a waterproof shell type jacket then the Montane Velocity is good. Packs up to the size of a fist too, so easy to carry with you just in case.

Love the Altura stuff but they are on my boycott list now as I'm fed up with their crappy zips. Even on the jackets where they have allegedly fixed that problem

OK so I think Altura is out, the Kamleika Race Jacket looks interesting - tried the Gore Alp and it fitted well but at £220 seems pricey. Not sure about the Endura Stealth yet ...

Helmet compatible hood is a winner for me. No point in a waterproof if it runs down your neck

I had an Endura Stealth. It was nice but it started to wet through within a season. Fine if you're riding and still making heat, not so fine if you have a mechanical, a slow group, or an injury.

I went back to hard-shell Goretex jackets after that. No such problems.

Gore Bike Wear stuff has seen me right. I use a Paclite jacket and then layers underneath. Flexible, waterproof, small to pack down.

I had the Endura MT500 and it fell apart on me. Last Autumn Wiggle were selling off the previous seasons Alp X on the cheap so I picked one up for £125.

The quality of the Alp X is fantastic. Zippers, seam strips, fit, wind stop and thermal qualities are all way ahead of Endura. The Alp is also lighter so you sweat less but at the same time it's thermal qualities are better because it's Gore-Tex.

The down side to all of this is that when you fall off the Alp rips, whereas the Endura would just scuff. There are plenty of companies out there that do GoreTex repairs but it's cost me £25 each time (twice now).

I wouldn't pay full price for the Alp but you definitely get what you pay for (In saying that Endura also seemed to have got over some of the quality issues they've had over the last few years).

Liking the look of the OMM Kamlieka gear.. they do a nice jacket which looks as though it is helmet compatible..i am having the same dilemma..

Paramo Quito, or Furtech Bearclaw, but accept you're going to get wet whatever you're wearing, what's important is staying comfortable in that situation.

+1 Stealth.

My first one managed 3 years, still waterproof but the seams 'unattached'. Took for repair at my LBS and Endura just replaced it - cracking 🙂

Good piece of equipment, but needs to be below 5c.

Been using a Latok Alpine (Event fabric) for the last three years, if I where to buy another jacket it would be Rab.

Always likes Paramo stuff and am thinking about a Velez smock for when it gets properly cold up here (North East Scotland). Probably too warm for most of the year, although I hear the Mountain Bike instructors at Glenmore Lodge (Aviemore love theirs). Probably get them for free and spend a fair bit of time standing around though.

The Quito looks interesting, but presumably the shell is made of the same lightweight material as the Velez light. I tried a Velez light and the material is certainly noisier and doesn't look like it would be as easy to fix after a crash. But (without derailing the thread) I'd be interested to hear of any real world experience of mountain biking in the Quito. It comes in Orange, which may be enough to sell it to me anyway!

Quito was the only Paramo that fitted me well enough for cycling, long arms and low at the back,not too baggy at the front. A bit warm for anything but winter, feels soft, but stood up to a fair old stack with nothing but a tiny hole in the sleeve. I'd recommend trying for size before buying(I wasn't able to at the time), i've got a medium, but could probably use a small, but needed an XL to get long enough sleeves/body in their other jackets.

British Army DPM goretex. Nothing else worked for me.

Norrona bitihorn dri1.
Very light, packs up small and a hood that will fit under/over your crash helmet if really wet.
Just need a warm layer underneath if a bit chilly.

quite a few to consider, some which i'd never heard of but which i will be looking at. The norrona bitihorn dr1, OMM kamlieka, gorebike alp 2 and the endura stealth are the ones i'll be looking at..leaning towards the OMM but some reviews questioned its longevity when wearing packs.. 😕
