Cycle to work scheme related contemplation
I've got an on-one Scandal 29er, with Rebas and good wheels, but cheap gears and brakes and am wondering about upgrade options. Hardtail - XC type riding with the odd lap of Cannock thrown in. Best bike I ever had was an on-one Whippet - kinda would like to go back to that but a bit less XC / more
For a good upgrade I'd be looking to buy the below
Frame - preferably Carbon but doesn't have to be
Groupset - 1x10 or 1x11 Shimano
Brakes - something decent but could forgoe for now and update later
Any pointers to what's around for a grand for that kind of package? Happy to put more into the frame and worry about the brakes & groupset later.
BTW - yes, this is allowed on the bike 2 work scheme - see cyclescheme web site
Is this generally sold as a package?
No, I doubt it. It's the frame that's of interest I guess - probably I should have said "what's a good frame at around £600-800" or similar....
Pretty sure you'll need a friendly shop to get a frame through the scheme. Wheels and groupsets are fine but I think frames are on the prohibited list with bike trailers.

- Safety accessories - that help keep you and your bike safe; helmets, bike lights, reflectors, mirrors, bells, locks...
- Essential accessories - necessary to cycle commute; clothing and shoes, mudguards, panniers, backpacks, child safety seats…
- Components and parts - that keep your bike in great shape; pumps, puncture repair kits, cycle tool kits, tyre sealant, groupsets, wheels, cranksets, cassettes...

To be fair, the wheels aren’t going to turn very well without a frame are they 👍

The only cycle to work scheme exceptions are:
GPS ride trackers and navigation devices
Bike racks for cars
Cameras
Turbo trainers or rollers
Everything else is allowable. For example:
Bikes (including all variants of adapted bikes, recumbents and hand cycles)
E-bikes
Cycle specific clothing
Tyres
Components i.e. groupsets, brake levers
Helmets
Mudguards
Locks
Lights
Frames
Child seats
Bags (on-bike and off-bike)
Cycle trailers
Anything that is going to help you and your bike arrive at work (warm, safe and secure) is essentially allowable.
