Hello
I run the old Nobby nic on the rear, i think it is 2.25
But tends to fold when pushed... but i like it for its speed
Any better alternatives out there, would like it still fast and lighter.. but a bit more sturdy 😉
Slaughter Grid
Slaughter Grid has been good to me, have a Minion SS to try but haven't yet
Slaughter Grid
Ardent Race if you want something really fast but still grippy, fair bit lighter than the Slaughter too
Minion ss or aggressor
Ardent
Slaughter Grid.
Rock Razor
+1 for Rock Razor
I ran a Rock Razor last summer, it was fast alright and grippy in the turns but zero braking grip! Aggressor is just about perfect for me.
Aggressor for me as well. Fast rolling but with enough bite for chunky climbs in the lakes.
I get on well with the maxxis aggressor however obviously something like a minion ss would be quicker, I do run mine year round though.
Slaughter grid for me too.
I like the Minion SS I've got on mine at the minute.
Minion SS is great! Even climbs remarkably well, just not terribly good at braking on steep loose stuff.
Just put Schwalbe big ones on my 29er. Wish me luck!
Another vote for Slaughter Grid. Fast, and has taken a ton of abuse. Really impressed.
I've just put a 2.25 WTB Trail Boss on my hardtail as they are 13 quid from PX at the moment, but haven't had a chance to ride it yet to rate it. What I will say is that, even taking into account it's on a 30mm rim, (which is far from ideal) it comes up huge! Still very round, but I reckon almost as big as a 2.4 HR2.
I've got an Ardent Race on there at the moment but I'm replacing is at the sidewalls are just too flexy for me. It's very light and very fast though, just not great at corners or braking!

Ardent 2.4 EXO
Iv found these to be a great rear tyre over the years
Just light enough, just tough enough, just grippy enough and just enough volume for pretty much anything
I like my Maxxis aggressor - it’s in 3c Exo format / 2.3” and run tubeless. I tend to run it April - October ish before going dhr2 over the winter for more grip but a draggier ride.
I assume they make the aggressor in dual compound as well as 3c which could reduce rolling resistance further.
