Following the bike weight thread.

Don't really want to spend £50 on the Park DS1 or Feedback Alpine Scales.

But don't trust the cheap amazon and eBay luggage scales.

Is there an accurate alternative which is reasonably priced?

If you're not calibrating them it makes little difference. Buy some cheap scales, fill a bucket with a known quantity of water and weigh it. That'll let you know how accurate it is and you can then compensate. Any Park scales I've used seem to err on the low side.

Or just ignore the whole bike weight thing altogether...

How do you know what weight the bucket is if your scales aren't accurate in the first place 🙂

Was thinking that some of the fishing scales would be good?

"But don't trust the cheap amazon and eBay luggage scales."

unless your into willy waving you only need to use the same scales - the margin of error will be similar and your comparing apples for apples - all you need to know is that when you change part of bike it is lighter or heavier than the old one, getting into a pissing contest with someone whos not weighing their bike on your particular scales is a non starter.

As above I have cheap luggage scales from amazon and they are fine

They tell me how much my bike weighs relative to how much it used to weigh - or the other bikes in the house that have been weighed on the same scales

I've got a cheap scale... I weighed 10 kilos of bench weights and got 10 kilos but I don't suppose they're that exact either.

Ah hah... I'll weigh my bike bag then get it weighed at the airport.

Bathroom scales, then knock off an arbitrary 1.5lbs 😉
