Looking to buy 2 group sets - SLX or XT (or SRAM 1x12 if the price is right).
Any recommendations on good deals at the moment?

(Stuck behind a firewall in work so a lot of sites are blocked making searching difficult.)

Not that I've created a spreadsheet and been tracking prices for a few months ... but Bike 24 were the cheapest for the GX Eagle build I've just done, €250 without cranks.

Wiggle are showing an xt 2x11 groupset for 250, is there any reason you couldn’t just bin the front mech and shifter and remove a chainring rather than pay 300 for the 1x group?

I bought 1x12 upgrade kit from here for £160 before Christmas (now back up to £230)
NX 1x11 is still cheapo.

Depends what the OP wants. Shimano didn’t really embrace 1x, rather they offered groups doing exactly what you suggest, so you’re stuck dealing with spacing the chainring to get it in the right place for 1x from the get go, plus you limit yourself via the 11T top. Obviously this works for many but it’s not ideal.

OP, are you particularly looking for groupset in a box or is a combination of differently branded parts from one shop an acceptable alternative? And is freehub body a limitation ? From the original question, I’m assuming you’re not a drivetrain brand zealot?

Ali Express is the place for Shimano groupsets. I got an SLX setup (no cranks) for £96 and it arrived within a week.

I didn't pay any import duties though i'm not sure that's always the case.

Sram 1x11 is pretty good - I’m running it on both bikes. I recently bought a gx rear mech for £70, shifter for £30 and cassette for £80 from CRC. I picked up an X1 chain for £20 from Tweeks cycles. So total without cranks of £200. I then picked up a truvativ stylo gxp 1x crank with 32t x sync chainring for £60 from eBay. Works amazingly well and the range is good - the cassette is a 10-42 XD driver.

I went with SLX and got cassette, chain, shifter and mech for £120. Cassette £45 from Merlin along with two KMC chains for I think a tenner ish, the mech and shifter from CRC. Retail too with a nice cable in the box.

how about xt derailleur £55 tweeks £35 XT shifter, kmc x11-93 £16, sunrace 11-46 cassette £55

do you need a crankset?

wiggle and CRC are throwing around £10 off £50-60 spend, so i usually take advantage of these offers and tredz have had £5 off a £30 spend for the last 3 years (easy enough to find the code)

Thanks for the pointers, chaps.

I think I'll go for the SRAM NX that transporter13 pointed out. Cheers.

Just paid £188 for GX Eagle cassette, mech, shifter and chain. Merlin with the 10% Xmas discount and topcashback. At that money, 11 speed doesn't make much sense.

11 speed sram seems to be a bit more durable than 12 speed sram -
Especially at the lower end level. Yes the range isn’t as good but I find with a 30t Chainring on the fs and 32t on the hardtail I get on fine with a 10-42 cassette.

The Ali express SLX group I got is definitely genuine!

I fitted it all at the weekend, standard Shimano quality. No issues at all.
