ok I may have to admit that I'm getting older. My left knee is crap, can't stand up to pedal anymore without it collapsing.

Anyone  seen any good ideas for budget e bikes that I could be pointed in the general direction of?

I prefer a 29er, have always used a cross bike for touring over the years but don't need drop bars as I rarely use them.

What's out there that's caught peoples eyes and wallet?

Cube reaction, 29er, hardtail.

i think they start at around £1600.

my wife has one thats a couple of years old, she has changed the forks and wheels, but I can’t fault it.

ive been camping on it, fully loaded with huge panniers and 20 stone me, did 35 ish miles, some of it offroad, used about 60% battery.

rode it home from work, 31 miles or so, wearing shirt and tie on a lovely summers evening. Used around 60% battery that time too, was a very hilly route.

i would buy another.

You will need at least 180mm of travel.

Was looking for someone recently and came to same conclusion that the Cubes represents a good compromise point. Some of the cheapest ones are not much better than supermarket BSOs with an added battery and motor. As it becomes more mainstream there is more choice which is great but my advice would be to look at them as any other bike first and then think about the motor/battery that is attached.

Funnily enough it had been Cubes I'd been thinkibg of too, I'd had my Cube full suspension stolen at Christmas and had always got on with it.

I shall go up to my local Leisure Lakes and see what they have to offer.
