Preferably Hollowtech but not open to suggestions of square taper.

Should I just go hollowtech King and take a crappy spare with me. They weigh next to nothing for the peace of mind.

tbh i would use square taper - even when it goes[develops play] it will last for a few thousand miles
I have had a hollowtech seize though it was not on a ride but two days later it would not move.
If hollowtech then probably hope and a spare and a spanner.
