So I find myself enjoying the hospitality of the NHS having been hit by a car yesterday evening (not my fault)

Can anyone recommend a good cycling solicitor to help me sort this out.. ITV4's finest, or other?

Any experience to lend for how to approach?

I don't have any cycling specific insurance, just home and car if that's any use....

TIA
SusEpic

Cycle SOS - ITV 4's finest as you put it, do the accident claims and management thing for Cycling UK, so yeah, that'd be a good place to start. I'm sure they'll advise you best on what steps to take

If you're in hospital, I guess the police were involved?

Hope you're not too badly hurt and you're soon better.

Leigh Day are British Cycling's lawyers and are also excellent. Just call them and explain the situation.

Hope you are on the road to recovery.

Home insurance would cover you for damage you'd caused to someone else but won't necessarily include legal cover for this sort of thing.

I used Leigh Day several years ago, they were good (as far as I could tell).

Make sure you get photos of any injuries and take notes on what hurts when, things you were unable to do, costs incurred (e.g. parking at hospital for someone coming to visit you, taxis if you can no longer cycle commute, private physio etc) as it can take a long time to settle things and you will forget.

Also, don't rush for an injury settlement. You should get 'stuff' paid for pretty quickly (bike repair/replacement, helmet replacement, etc). Make sure you are happy that you're fully healed before you finalise any payout for injuries as once it's done, it's done and you can't go back for more if you accept a low offer early on and then your recovery doesn't go as planned.

Thanks folks, I'll take a look at both those options, and make enquiries in the morning.
Knee looking a bit dodge, might not be cycling for a couple of months......

Bad luck and I hope you get back to normal quickly.
If you are in a union then they will probably help. It's one of the things they usually do well.

When I was knocked off by old duffer a few years ago I contacted, I think they were just transitioning from the CTC then, and asked if I joined then would I be able to use their legal services. I could, and did, and all was sorted with very little hassle.

Might be different story now, but see what CyclingUK say.
